    Am I Getting Enough Nutrients?

    Hi all,

I am 7 weeks and even though I haven't had any actual morning sickness (though I have felt 'not right' in the stomach for a week or two), I have completely gone off vegetables, especially green vegetables. I've been trying to eat well, but there are so many foods that I just can't stand the thought of eating. I'm really worried that I'm not getting enough essential nutrients, etc. Anyone else having this problem? Any answers?

Are you taking vitamins? I know people that have gone off everything, or were so sick they couldn't eat anything, but our body looks after bubs!
What a bout fresh juices? disguising vegies that way?? Or if you like pasta, grating vegies through it so you dont' taste them. xo

I'm taking folic acid, but that's it. I think I'll buy some of the more generalised vitamins though. I'm good with fruit juice and some fruits (esp tangy ones). Thanks for the veg juice and pasta ideas. I'll give it a try.

Im taking pregnancy tablets called Fabfol. They have the folic acid in them plus multivitamins. Maybe that could be something for you to consider? There are other brands out there too... just ask your chemist.

Sterla - I'm feeling exactly the same way atm. I've always usually had heaps of steamed veg most nights with my dinner but atm I am totally turned off veg. Eeewww - the smell! I've been making lots of soups, which is kind of nice atm now that the weather is a bit cooler. I also do what webbmeg said and i grate them up and add them to pasta dishes etc. I also take blackmores pregnancy gold.

I hope your appetite finds it's way back soon. Enjoy your pregnancy.

Sterla, should you not be able to stomach the actual vegie juice, V8 does a wonderful Citrus Splash & Melon burst which is a vegetable juice based but with fruit in it so it taste so much nicer than a tomato based juiced IMO, especially if you've not been up to eating vegies

    Hi Sterla,
I was exactly the same way as you a week ago! I was so worried I wasn't getting enough food hence worried i was lacking nutrients. I'm not worried about my body, just the baby! Yet I figured if i'm not looking after myself then the bub isn't being looked after!
It's so hard when you don't feel like eating much and especially if you have strong nausea like i did last 2 weeks
All you can do is eat healthy foods that you feel like eating and your body will catch up in the weeks you start to feel better.
Definitely take some pregnancy vitamins, i'm on Blackmores Pregnancy Gold tablets (you take 2 a day) and they have everything your baby needs plus the foods we eat. and includes the folic acid in it.

I've been eating alot of toast as toast seems to calm my stomach, and i'm trying to mix up what i put on it, like egg or sardines or banana etc and it's multigrain bread too. and baked beans i've been eating and never normally eat beans!!! haha!!!

Lately, i've been turned off MEAT.....

I felt the same way when i was 5 1/2 weeks to 12 weeks, still have the odd day and i also was turned off vegies, but i ate lots of fruit and when i didnt feel like eating i made a smoothie (yoghurt, fruit & juice or milk) but doc says anything you can eat is better than nothing, don't stress too much about it my sister was sick the whole way through and all she could stomach was toast and cordial and she's had 2 healthy girls.
I take Elevit as my preg vitamin (Doc says its the best one but its like $60 for 100 tablets) but its got lots of iron and folate.
