I have just found out I am pregnant and am 5 weeks. I have just started noticing this morning a brown discharge and am a bit worried. Is this normal or should this be cause for concern?
It could be part of implantation bleeding or even some old blood left over from your last AF. It isn't usually anything to worry about and it is normal for a lot of women to have it. It would be more cause for concern if it was bright, fresh blood or if it were accompanied by any pain.
Yes It can be normal but like anything - go and get yourself checked to give you peace of mind. I had brown discharge with DD and even some brighter, redder clots (sorry TMI!) and she was fine. It's awful isn't it? You want to enjoy your pregnancy and then that happens but I think it's up to a third of women experince bleeding and some girls even still get their AF! Take care.
I had that at 6 weeks with DS1 and it was fine. Apparently it was a blood clot in the uterine wall which was breaking up. Brown blood is usually fine, but I recommend having a check - it sure makes you feel much better!
I've had a couple of experiences with brown discharge. The first was brown sludge - the best way I can describe it. This started at around 4 weeks pregnant and went on for 2 weeks. I didn't have any red bleeding or pain but it was a miscarriage.
The second one was brown spotting at around 5 weeks and then again at 6 weeks. Both times my doc put me on bed rest (I had a history of m/c by then) and all continued on well until Brock was born.
Generally brown is OK but red is more reason for concern.
