    When does your belly grow

Hi, I'm in my 4th week of pregnancy (i know im a newby) and I was wondering when I should start to show, Im just under 70kg at the moment but a healthy weight. Should I start to show before 3 months? Should my belly feel hard or soft? Sorry about all the questions, I just would like to know what to expect.

being your first pregnancy u can expect to start developing a small pot belly around 16weeks

at this stage, and up until 12 weeks or so, the uterus remains within the pelvis

    hope this helps

I think they say toward the end of the first trimester. Often you can get through the first trimester without anyone realising you're pregnant, although you'd probably have bigger breasts and some thickening around the waist. That said, bloating in early pregnancy is really common so your belly might seem bigger quite early (mine certainly does!) You probably won't need maternity clothes til you're into second trimester, and sometimes not even then.

Lozzy - It's a bit different with all women... The uterus should feel firm, but at this stage will still be in your pelvis. I didn't really show until i was 26 weeks and am now 50kgs.. But again, everyone is different.

ETA - I still don't own a single item of maternity clothing (not including bras) and can still fit into most of my normal clothes. Although most of my pants etc. are low hipsters and all sit below my bump otherwise i just wear a thick belt

    Congratulations on your pg!
You will notice a difference before anyone else does, but your tummy will probably start to get noticeably bigger at around 16 weeks or so. I got a pot belly about then and my pants got too tight to wear by about then too. My belly didn't start to get hard until well into the 2nd trimester. You will probably actually be able to feel your uterus by about 16 weeks or so too.

hi Lozzy, i think like everyone has said we are all different. I was already chubby when i got pregnant but i could easily disguise my pudgy stomach. But about 3weeks ago i had 2weeks off work and when i got back 1 week ago they lady i work with couldnt believe how my tummy just popped out. It is definatly recognizable now. Oh and i heard it has alot to do with your stomach muscles, first time mums with tighter tummy muscles show a bit later and mums who are having their 2nd or 3rd might just pop out sooner. A friend of mine is a size 8 and she is about 22 weeks now you can only see the tiniest little bump on her. And my mum has told me she carried really big with me and my brother, we were only 6pound and 7pound but she had alot of fluid. So i am prob taking after her lol. I hope this helps but i am only telling u what i think please dont quote me on any of it lol :-) good luck with your pregnancy.

I "popped out" at around 19 weeks. I got married at 18 weeks and didn't need to have my dress altered from pre-pregnancy, however about a week into our honeymoon I pretty much exploded, nothing would fit me anymore. My belly belt is my saviour, I still wear my normal pants with the belly belt and longer tops to cover it up and I'm 23 weeks now!

Everyone is different, hey? I started getting bigger straight away, feeling bloated etc. Lots of my tighter work pants stopped fitting me around the 12-15week mark. (Course, that could've been due to all the hot chips I was eating at lunchtimes
My friend is very athletic and is currently 21 weeks pg - I can't see a difference in her at all! (Though she can see the difference herself, and she did show me her little 'bump' hidden under her clothes It is little but it is definitely there! Just can't see it when you're not looking for it, IYKWIM.)

I'm average weight and I started showing around 15-16 weeks with my first baby.
It was much earlier than that with the second one though!

    Hi Amy,

I didn't show until about 20 weeks and even then depending on what I worn it sometimes just looked like I had just put on a bit of chub in my belly. Didn't get a real defined bellly for weeks after that.

I can't remeber if my belly was hard or soft. I thought at about 8 weeks that my belly was getting bigger, but photos proved that I wasn't at all. I actually lost weight in my 1st trimester due to morning sickness.

Its worth the wait! When you look preg it'll be warm and you'll be able to show it all off!

Good luck with the next 9 months

I noticed a small difference at 9 weeks and other people who knew I was pregnant started noticing a pot belly at 14 weeks.

I'm about that now and can notice a difference at night time, it really sticks out! Everything still fits though.
