    Body Piercings

I have just found out I'm 5-9 weeks PG and only have mild PMS type symptoms. Not that I'm complaining, thought the PG seems a little unreal at moment.

Anyway I have a navel and nipple piercing and was wondering what other ppl have done about theirs? or knows someone who had one while PG and what did they do.
DH doesn't want me to remove them.
I have heard stories about leaking milk from the other holes. I'm wanting to BF so I know the nipple one needs to come out, due to the risk of infection, choking etc.... But when would be the best time to remove it?

Any thoughts about the navel one?

hi.. i had my belly pierced.. but you may have to take it out as your belly really expands,i did as i was huge.. i had mine in till i was 22 weeks pregnant.. i really didnt want too as it took me weeks to pluck up the courage to have it done in the first place!!
i cant have mine put back in as i developed gall stones after having DD and thats where they had to have one of the cuts..
as for the nipple ring not sure on that if breast feeding it might be an issue talk to your doctor about it and he may have a few ideas!!!

I was planning to have my belly ring in for the whole pregnancy but I decided to take it out around 28wks because the skin looked so red and stretched. Right now the redness has gone away but am left with a little section looking real dark.

You can get maternity belly rings, thats what I was wearing but still decided to take it out. Just gotta see what happens!

i have my belly pierced and already i am finding that it is starting to protrude more and get caught on pieces of clothing (i have never had an issue with this in the past). For this reason i think i will be parting ways with it in the next coming weeks (regretfully!!). A Family member had hers in until 6 months and it did stretch the skin so i think i will have definately disposed of it by then.

Not sure on the nipple ring though, sorry.

I had a nipple piercing that I took out at about 10 weeks as it became uncomfortable. It healed up pretty well but now that I am starting to leak some colostrum (24 weeks) i have noticed some thick white stuff where the hole was on one aide. Its not infected as its not painful but not sure what it is. Will ask my midwife at next appointment.

I got a belly ring from a body peircer/tattooist with DS it's flexible so moves with your growing belly. I had it in all through both pregnancies with no dramas. One of my old friends had a normal belly bar in hers all the way through her pregnancy with no dramas.

I didn't even know you could get such a thing as a "maternity" belly ring? wow, if i had known that i would probably have kept it! I took it out cos it was getting infected lots anyway.. my body seemed to reject it in my belly..

Ren, they are made from the same stuff they make artificial heart valves etc so you're body isn't like to reject it. It's worth a try if you'd like to have one none pregnant as well

The skin over my belly button piercing looks like it is about to snap!
As it wasnt a deep piercing in the first place it has now become bright red and almost infected looking- YUCK! It is also quite painful. I was even thinking about going to the doctor and seeing if it could be cut for some relief!!
I wish I never got it done.

BTW My piercings have never closed up, even when I have wanted them to!!

Reneenay: That sounds awful, if you find the area painful, and see a discahrge, definately get it seen by your Dr.
My piercing is quite deep. I have just purcased a maternity piercing from hotpash (thank you Sarah_H for the recommendation)

I was lucky and never had to take mine out until the day I had my ceasor. But this pregnancy i think will be different, so i had taken a leaf out of Sarah's book and added Natalies shop to my favourites !!

I had a bellybutton piercing that I took out in my third trimester. I had an enormous belly (I ended up growing a 10lbs 11oz baby in there!!), and the baubles on the ends of the belly ring were pressing into my skin, causing redness and sponginess.

I haven't put it back in, as the piercing holes are no longer in line with my belly button and it would be asymmetrical .. my belly button has caved in, with a bump protruding, and my piercing holes are about 1cm to the right. Bummer hey?

ETA: regarding the nipple piercing, I haven't had one so can't really talk from experience, but a lot of women leak from their breasts when breastfeeding anyway (or at least I do, that's why I wear breastpads), and if milk leaks DURING breastfeeding, it also wouldn't be a problem as the baby will have all of the nipple and a lot of areolae in it's mouth anyway.
