Early scan issues - Has this happened to you?

Hi ladies, Went for my early u/s this morning, The gestational sac is measuring about 5 weeks but he said there was no fetal pole. Then came back and said its not viable :-( Im seeing my gyno this arvo to get a second opinion. this will be my 3rd m/c if they are right.

Has anyone had this but gone to scans later and found it was alright??

    ??

I haven't had this, but didn't want to read and run. That must have been terrible to be told that, fingers crossed for you that everything is ok.

When I was pg with DS I had an early dating scan as I was unsure of my dates. The sac measured 5 weeks and something days, no fetal pole. I had a scan about a week and a half later which had grown the appropriate size and had a heart beat.

I see that your ticker says you are 8 weeks 2 days, are you certain of your dates?

Not certain of dates, as I was on clomid. Im hoping i was just too early and to re-scan next week. Iv had no bleeding, Some small cramps but not too painful etc and my blood HCG friday was 1812 with progesterone of 25

Shan, waiting for another scan is terrible - the longest wait ever! If you had bloods last Friday, ring your doctor and ask whether you can have some more done today (and get a rush on the results!). If the pregnancy is not viable, you should see a decrease in your HCG, but if it is viable and was just too soon for a fetal pole to be seen your HCG will have risen. It will give you a pretty good indicator of whether the pregnancy will progress.

If you were only measuring 5 weeks, I would be inclined to wait at least a week and a half before another scan - 6 weeks is still very early to see anything.

6 weeks can be too early to see via usual ultrasound, did they do a transvaginal one too? (otherwise known as dildocam)

I have twice now had blighted ovums, I get to 9 and a half weeks, have a scan but only yolk sac visible.
My hcg levels were still on target for where I should have been at (9 1/2 weeks) but gestational sac only measuring 4-5 wks. this is because (or so I was told) the placenta keeps producing the HCG even though the pregnancy isn't viable. my BT results coupled with the scan were the diagnosis for blighted ovum.

I also had no bleeding etc, the only sign for me that anything was wrong was a definite lack of morning sickness.

Good luck, I hope it was just too early for you to see yet. x

My first scan was 5w3d, there was a sac but no fetal pole. Sonographer told us that it may or may not be viable and to come back in a couple weeks. DS is now 4 months old.

With DD1 there was just a sack. I'm not sure about the fetal pole though (it was a few years ago). She's now 5.

A few friends have had similar things happen too. Good luck.

If your dates are out, then it may still be ok with a bit of time as you wouldn't expect to see much at 5 weeks. If you're supposed to be further along, though, then it may have stopped growing. It must be awful to be unsure and hanging about waiting I hope it turns out to be good news for you.

I had ultrasound at 5weeks with my last. Only found sac. (And that was a trans V ultrasound)

Had another ultrasound at 6 weeks and we found a perfect little heartbeat. Probably wouldn't have found the 'fetal pole' if it hadn't been for the heartbeat.

DS3 now nearly 5 months old!

It depends a lot on what machine they are using as well.

OK ladies, I want to thank you ALL for your support. My doctor said it is 99% an unviable pregnancy but ordered bloods. I had to wait all arvo as a stuff up with pathology but after telling family and booking a d&c for the morning, he called me back and said:

"umm shannon, your results are interesting. Your Beta HcG on friday was 1812 and today is over 7000!!!!!!"
I almost fell on the floor with happiness!!

You girls all gave me hope and love and i thank you all for your well wishes. I am 5 weeks 4 days
I have more bloods friday and another scan monday or tuesday.
Today is mine and my husbands 3rd year wedding anniversery and what a way for it to end xxx
