falling hcg and light brown discharge

Ok so I live in Dubai (but am an aussie) and given i can't seem to get any real answers here i thought i might take it to all of you.
I am about 4-5 weeks pregnant (i think 4 the doctor thinks 5 but i know a little more about the fact i only came off the pill 5 weeks ago!).
Went in to confirm pregnancy and here you can't see a GP for pregnancy only a obgyn. so he tested my hcg levels when i was about 2-3 week and they were at 42.5.
He said this was normal and to come back in 4 days to get it tested again to check it was going up. I went back in and it had risen in only 3 days to 524! I was thrilled, over the moon.
A week late - yesterday- i noticed some brown discharged but only when i wiped and very slight (sorry if that is a little too much info) so i called him and he said to come in. He did another hcg and then told me it was the same but not to worry. When i asked what the same meant he said it was 406, which clearly is NOT the same it had dropped.
He has told me not to worry as he has seen this many times before and usually it goes back up again for many reasons.
This however does not match any of the research I have done today, most lowering in hcg seems to mean a miscarriage is coming. Some women have said that they have had fluctuating levels but I am terrified.
This is our first pregnancy and I was so excited.
Have to wait until Saturday to go and get another test to see where the levels are at again... anyone else had a similar story and all worked out ok????
Thanks and wishing you all the best.
    x

how far along are you hun? you came off the pill 5 weeks ago yeah? But the doctor tested your hcg at 2-3 weeks? Usually at around the '2 week' mark you are not even pregnant...you are ovulating, so your hcg would be nothing (or very low), as pregnancy is measured from you last menstrual period...so the week you have your period you are 1 week pregnant already.

I hope everything goes well with your test today, try to not think about it too much

Thanks so much for the messages

Wow, it is just so nice to have other women thinking of me from the other side of the world... that makes me feel so grateful.
No matter what happens today (it is only 9am here in Dubai so a long wait until appointment at 3!), i know it is someone's way of life going in the direction it is meant to.
Even though of course I still secretly hope that direction is one of a healthy baby
    love to all. x

    bad news

Sorry to say that my levels went from 426 down to 200 yesterday so i don't have a viable pregnancy. The doctor was so insensitive about everything i wanted to reach over the desk and strangle him. I know it is just the arab language barrier but he said "this is nothing, you have made nothing, you should not even think about it. It was a few cells that were nothing. I am sure you have other things in your life than pregnancy I hope, so just get on with them you were never pregnant really".
To be honest through all the tears of the last 24 hours, most of them I think have been out of anger for being told it this way.
It was a life, a life that my husband and I had started. Those 'cells' were the start of our baby.
I also don't know what to expect how because when i asked him what will happen now to my body, he said "nothing don't worry about it just go home and get another test in 10 days to check it is at 0.
He just would not answer any of my questions... will i bleed? if i don't is this bad? will i have any other symptoms? When is it safe to have sex again as i have heard not to have intercourse for 2 weeks after a miscarriage but when exactly is the miscarriage because i no symptoms of miscarriage at all?! When will I likely ovulate again? etc etc.
so all in all not a great day...

swheat - I am so sorry for your loss. Your doctor is an ass, and you should try and find someone else. I just found out i am pregnant on Monday, and am about 4.5 weeks along. I started bleeding a bit on Wed, but my HCG levels had gone from 472 (Monday) to 760 (Wednesday) The bleeding stopped and the thought is that it was due to a yeast infection. However a blood test on Saturday showed my HCG levels have dropped (nurse didn't say what to)

So now I have another blood test tomorrow and it's more waiting for me.... I just don't know what to expect? IS it normal for HCG levels to drop at all??

Hi Babytruj. oh boy do I know what you are feeling! It is so hard and the more you read about it the more confusing it becomes.
The reality is that a drop in hcg levels 2 consecutive tests is considered a pending miscarriage. but then i have read stories (in the 3 days of waiting i think i googled 80% of it away!) about people have fluctuating levels and gone on to deliver healthy babies. One of the main reasons seemed to be 'vanishing twin', which is where the levels drop due to a twin not progressing but a second baby being perfectly fine. This is what i was hoping for myself but did not seem to happen for me, but my fingers are crossed for you that the numbers go up.
I am going to go and see another doctor as I am really quite confused at the moment about whether i just wait for the levels to get to 0 even if i don't have any symptoms of miscarriage, or does this put me at risk if i have no symptoms etc. All very confusing, wish I was back home in Australia to speak with a doctor that could actually converse properly with me.
All my happy thoughts are heading your way though for your test tomorrow, let us know how you go.
Thanks to all those who have left a message for me, I appreciate you taking the time to allow me to feel so supported, tis lonely going through this on the other side of the world.
    Sal x
