    Fibroid in uterus

Hi all... had my ultrasound at 6 weeks and found I have a fibroid in the uterus on my left side. My GP said this is nothing to worry about. Has anyone had this?

I was told i had uterus polyp fibroids about two years ago and the dr told me to remove it as I was experiencing bad period cramps. At that time, i didn't have private insurance and needed to wait for 1.5 yrs before i finally had the surgery. After the surgery (d/c) they found nothing, apparently they said it can dissapear ?? So I went through the surgery for nothing
This is before I am pregnant
I remember the dr mentioned if it's big then it might interfere with you getting pregnant (hindering the implantation or something like that ...), but once you're pregnant it won't harm the baby. Hope this helps

Ye I had no idea I even had one - I never had period cramps before....

I thought it may interfere with baby growing and all..

    Thanks for your replies girls...

I have one too, never even knew about it til I had my 12 week scan. It hadn't grown any at my 20 week scan and the sonographer told me then to forget it was even in there it was so small.

The only time it's an issue is if its blockig bubs exit (cervix) or it grows at a rapid rate. It can cause the uterus tostretch and sometimes bring on premature labour. But this is rare.

Have it checked out at your next scan and get teh measurements done and find out where it is placed. I'm sure all will be fine for you.

Goodluck for the rest of your pregnancy and welcome to BB

    Hey Caz

I've had a few fibroids...generally, if they are asymptommatic (ie. you didn't even know you had them), they are not going to cause you any problems. About 30% of women have fibroids, and most don't even know they have them. I still have a couple!

From what I understand, pregnancy is actually a good thing for fibroids...I know when I did have some troublesome ones (about 6 years ago), the Gyn. said to me the best thing I could do was to 'get pregnant'!

So...they shouldn't cause a problem...just make sure the sonographer keeps an eye on it for your next scan...

Wishing you all the very best!

I have one but it wasn't mentioned on the US I got. They are caused by low progesterone/estrogen dominance, hence why they can also be in tandem with infertility or endometriosis - all have the same cause. It is also why they can shrink or remain dormant during pregnancy, due to the high progesterone. They also disappear usually during menopause with the drop of estrogen. Estrogen is a growth hormone, certain cysts, fiboids, cancers, et al, they are all promoted with estrogen. I am worried my baby may have implanted on the fibroid or my c-scar, but neither has been mentioned yet.
