    Flippin coldsore

Hi ladies, just found out Im up the duff after 3 years of trying, 2 m/c and 2 months of clomid.

And now I have a coldsore, which mind you I never ever get. I went to the chemist and they said there was nothing I could have for it. Any natural remidies anyone has tried??

    Thanks in advance

Vodka and ice! Dab the vodka on with a cotton ball which seems to kill it and hold an ice cube on it which stops it from spreading. I got them while pregnant too and found this worked as good as anything.

I got them in both my pregnancies. My body was just run down. I carried on using Zovirax didn't realise you shouldn't at the time.

I get them, one the flip side your bubba gets lots of your immunity to the virus. On the downside they suck!

I've found that Witch Hazel solution is great at clearing them up in a few days without them hurting much at all. I use this on my Hemroids too when I get them while pregnant.

Yeah Zovirax is an unknown during pregnancy. There hasn't been enough people use it over enough time for them to say it is safe like other medications.

Can you take LLysine? If not able to take, you can make it into a paste and put on the coldsore to dry it out.

I got given a betadine for cold sores. Lovely bright orange brown stuff it is!

Nyall is avail in supermarkets only and is suppose to be ok in preg. But double check with a pharmacist (I've never seen it for sale in a pharmacy). I also used a product called compeed which is avail from supermarkets only. It's a clear thing that you put over the cold sore. I prefer those because its covered. But double check with the pharmacy if they're safe as I can't remember.

    Congrats on your pregnancy too!

I get coldsores more often than I would like, and had a pharmacist say that I shouldn't use zovirax. But my ob said the cream was fine to use.

But Compeed patches, also available in pharmacies and supermarkets, are little circles that you stick onto your skin over the coldsore which have some sort of healing assistance in the adhesive, with the added bonus of occluding the area (ie, covering it, stopping you from touching it, etc) which I find helps enormously. I use the night patches, day and night, and even a bad coldsore is usually healed in about 5 days.

Ice. And check whether you can take a lysine and/or zinc supplement - really helps them to heal.

Lysine is amazing. Helps prevent them if you get recurring outbreaks. Blackmores and ethical nutrients do one.

I found ice used to make mine worse, but putting aftershave on it made it better. Dries it out so it goes away within a day or is at least much better by then. I tried all sorts if creams and stuff but the aftershave has always worked best.

    Re: Flippin coldsore

Coldsores can also be affected by what you are eating. High levels of one protein (Arginine) will help the virus replicate and you will get an active sore, while the other type of protein (Lysine) blocks the first type and helps to prevent the sore. So maybe if you keep getting them, have a look at your diet.
