    Question Heartbeat Myth or Fact?

Had my u/s yesterday and they told me the heart rate was 173.Ive heard an old wives tale that a higher heart rate(it can range from 120 to 200 apparently) means you're having a boy.Does anyone know if there's any true to this or is it really just an old wives tale

Have no idea, but that sounds to me like an old wives tale - sorry. When I was in hospital they told me that girls usually has higher heart rate than boys, but I am a sceptic!!

I had actually heard that the higher heart rate is supposed to be a girl.. I think its an old wives tale though.

Ness, it has always worked the way with me. Anything over 140bpm is said to be a girl, below that a boy.

Perhaps its a myth, but like I said. It's always worked for me.

I heard it was faster for boys too! I had a CTG at 34 weeks and the mid said she would put her money on a boy, it was about 170bpm.

    We had a boy!

ETA his HR was always above 140bpm

It's a myth but a fun one that will keep you guessing some! I have had 8 pregnancies where fetal heart was heard... My ds was the slowest heart beat! But he's a bit of a lazy fella! The others all varied greatly. DD 4 should have been a boy!

Your babies heart beat reflects it's movement, activity, the affects of what you have eaten etc etc.

If you Google the words... fetal, heart, rate, sex you should come up with a publication of a study by Terry J. DuBose... check it out

I think it is a myth. Cooper's heartrate was 154 (which should have meant that he was a girl!)

With this bub the heartrate has been 164, 173 and yesterday it was 155. I agree with Deb it depends on what you are eating and drinking etc.
