Low progesterone at 5 weeks despite using progesterone pessaries

    Hi all,

I'd love to know if you have any advice for me about dropping progesterone levels in early pregnancy despite being on pessaries.
I'm 5 weeks pregnant with great HCG levels but have been spotting and bleeding lightly every day since 7 dpo I have been on progesterone pessaries since 9 dpo (2 x 200mg increased to 3 x 200mg per day). My prog levels were 43 at 10dpo, 75 at 14 dpo and dropped to 55 at 21 dpo.

I'm quite worried because my previous 2 pregnancies were miscarriages (blighted ovums) and I spotted constantly and had low progesterone with them. Progesterone is a definite problem for me and I have a 5 to 8 day luteal phase in a regular cycle The fertility clinic just said to come back in a week for another blood test.

Has anyone experienced this and if so, did your Doctor do anything for you? I'm thinking of trying to talk to my FS on Monday. Could I go on injections or something? I'd hate to lose a third pregnancy for the same reason if there was something I could try. I'd really appreciate any advice

Unfortunately I don't have any advice, although I too had to have progesterone pessaries till the end of my first trimester.
Just wanted to offer a hug and suggest that you talk to your FS sooner rather than later. I'm not sure if an injection is available, but I'm sure your FS can do something to increase your progesterone levels.
    All the best, xx

Progesterone pessaries have localised effect so a lot of the time they don't show up in blood prog levels. In saying that though, going by your history a different route of administration might be better. Is it possible for you to get the prog tablets? My friend in Canada got put on those. Not sure if you can get them in Aus but it's worth asking. Good luck with everything xx

Thanks Miss B, AndiE and Mad Scientist for your well wishes
I'm feeling a bit calmer now, have increased my pessaries and the spotting has stopped!
I remember reading about the localised effect of prog pessaries Mad Scientist, thanks for reminding me. I really hope that's the case!
    Thanks again guys.

I was on 800mg a day.. you can get 400mg pessaries so you can ask for those to save taking as many. Wishing you well xxx
