    Help ..antibiotics

I have a chest infection and am on 4 hourly ventolin and up until now have resisted meds. Unfortunatley am now spiking temps and Doc says have to have antibitics as is no good for either me or the baby. I am stil really hesitant but am realy sick with worry not to mention not bein gable to breath and cramping fomr all the coughing. Anybdoy else had to have antibiotics during pregnancy? of course I want to do whats right for the baby but just can to get much sicker than this.

I'm sure the doctor wouldn't prescribe anything that is going to be bad for the baby. If the drugs were worse then the illness, you would have to believe he wouldn't have recommended them.

If he is only worried about your core body temperature, try asking him if taking panadol will be sufficent to bring it down and leave the antibiotics till last. I had a flu shot in my first five weeks at my doctors request, as much as I didn't really want to, I felt it was best for baby and me.

Good luck and hope you feel beter soon.

Certain types of antibiotics are perfectly safe to take during pregnancy, so try not to stress. I have known heaps of women that have had to take them during pregnancy...
I hope you are feeling better soon!

I have had antibiotics during pg. I can understand your concern - I can assure you I was the same. I checked every source I could find before agreeing with the GP and ob that they were ok. The most common ones used during pg are amoxillin, not necessarily the most effective, but safe.

I really hope you are feeling better soon.

Thankyou all so much for your posts. I have decided to go ahead and have taken my first dose. I dont have a spleen and also have an autoimune disease ta boot and my neutraphils are down reducing my ability to fight off infection. I rang my heamotologist and the min he said yes I took the dose.SO much to think about when pregnant *L*
