My husband and I are 12 weeks pregnant today, and we have experienced some slight bleeding this week, after an ultrasound to confirm baby still has heartbeat etc, we were advised that appearances syggest a small amount of fluid about the cervical canal and to the right of the gestation sac there is a small area of subchronic haemorrhage measuring 13 x 12 x 3mm in size.
Can anyone explain what this means and if you may have experienced this yourselves?
This means that the subchorionic heammhorhage is the area where the bleeding started from. Basically it is like a bruise under the placenta. Because the U/S says there is some fluid around the cervical canal, you will probably find you have some more brownish (old blood) like discharge over the next week or so. Most of the time the heamhorraghe means nothing but just take it easy for a while, no heavy lifting etc. They will have a look at the 18 week scan for the heamhorrhage and like bruises most of them have disappeared or gotten smaller.
I had a subchorionic haemorrhage in my first trimester and experienced spotting (after any activity) as well as a big red bleed. The subch was then picked up on a scan also. The explanation given to me was where a small part of the placenta has just torn away a little, hence you can get a bit of bleeding. From what I read, the treatment advice is to take it easy - stay off your feet, no lifting, minimal walking, standing around etc. If you DO do a lot of activity, it can exacerbate it (think of going running with a big scab on your knee - it would probably open up again). Typically they disappear (just heal up) but you can get it monitored on subsequent scans just to be sure. You may have the option to have another earlier scan if you want to see if it's resolved. Check with your dr's as to suggested treatment & follow-up.
There was another forum thread on here about it also.
All the best with it, I know any bleeding can be scary & stressful, but the prognosis is usually very good with these
