internal u/s at 6wks help (for a friend not me!!)

a good friend of mine is utd, she had a loss at 8wks last year so is really stressing her self out this time around. she's around 6wks and has had some spotting so her gp sent her for an internal u/s. she sent me a text saying she couldnt see anything (dunno if the u/s tec could) im trying my best to be positive for her, but i never had an early u/s before. they said they could see an early gestational sac. are you ment to see much at 6 weeks? im trying to keep her calm as possable and besides her df no one knows, so i thought i'd ask you lovely ladies shes also 24 with pcos as well. her bloods say 6 weeks too.

My dating scan with DD, I was 6w5d, it was an internal and we could see the sac, blob of baby and a heartbeat. I'm having a dating scan tomorrow, and I'll be around 5w2d, so I'm not sure what they would see at this early stage, but they did say its fine to come in. I hope it's just a bit early for your friend

Its common not to see anything but the sac (no heartbeat) for the first scan, I had to do mine twice and they told me it wasn't viable till they could see the Hb post 7-8 weeks.

I've had early dating scans and for me, I have seen a heart beat as early as 6w 1d, and not until as late as 7w 5d (resulting in DS1!). I think it is pretty normal if all they can see is the gestational sac and the fetal pole, but no heartbeat. For my viability scans though, I was never sent any earlier than 8wks.
Fingers crossed for your friend. I hope all is well.

    thanks girls.
i asked her if she could see a pole but she she said no - mind you i dont think she'd know what i was drippleing on about in the that regard,
shes been waiting two hours for results. i've never had an early u/s before so i cant really help her - and being the only person who knows and had babies before she's asking me

I'll let her know about the not much other then a sac thing to try and ease her mind. its hard on her and her DF as the first baby the lost took two years to conseive as i said she has pcos and he's a dype one diabetic (as been since he was 13i think) fx crossed its not another angel for her.

I had one at six weeks, external not internal, and we saw diddly squat. Which is apparently really common. Tell her not to stress until she had reason to... But I know how hard that is.

We had a scan at 6 weeks (external) and saw a heartbeat. Surely the person doing the ultrasound would have talked them through whatever (if anything) they saw?? I also had an ultrasound (around 6 weeks) with my early miscarriage, and although nothing could be seen, they told me that straight up (not that I was expecting to see anything though, I was bleeding pretty badly).

Mmm good point. The sonographer who did my 6wk scan said "Can't see much. Yolk sac and that's about it. That's to be expected for 6wks. Come back in two weeks."

    Yes great bedside manner.

    Did they tell her anything???

that they couldnt see anything. and they think its eather epctopic or out side the the womb. i've asked her if they've said they'd do blood every second day and another u.s in two weeks just to be sure
    my hearts braking for her

    to your friend.
I have no idea about early u/s's but surely they arent allowed to leave her wondering like that. I wonder how experienced the technician was.

she said they have now said there is no sac (??) but she thought the u/s tec said there was a small one. so she's waiting in emergency to see an ob/gyno about it all and go though what they found/didnt find. she's freaking out about eptopic but when i they said nothing i suggeted a chemical preg. i just wish she'd know eather way - so i know what support to offer her
