Question Is Mylanta OK to take in 1st tri for severe indigestion?

The last 24 hours I have had severe indigestion and wind (am doubled over) and in desperation went to the chemist as my more gentle remedies are not working. I took one dose and am now feeling a bit better (not doubled over but still somewhat uncomfortable).

Does anyone know whether Mylanta poses any problems at this stage of pg or whether there is something else (that is strong like Mylanta) that could work?

I think Mylanta is safe. I didn't need to use it during first tri, but was popping the tablets like they were candy during the later parts of my pregnancy and as long as you don't exceed the maximum 24 hr dosage then it should be fine.

I'm sure Mylanta is fine too, but my GP recommended Gaviscon liquid, and Tums, and Rennies. I have had awful reflux / indigestion through this pg, and have found Rennies (tablets) work...

Big hugs my love. I got horrendous heartburn as well during my pregnancies. Antacids are generally safe - just ask the pharmacist. I would suggest you phone your obstetrician & get a prescription. The drug of choice is safe in pregnancy & you will feel like a new woman very quickly.

I couldn't sleep, eat or function properly as mine was so bad - so you have heaps of my empathy.

I got a bottle of Mylanta in my Bounty Bag at my first hospital appointment, I was just before 12 weeks... so I thought it would be ok! I have heard otherwise though, and I just stuck to 'preventatives' and Fruit Tingles, Rennies when it got very bad.
Something about the Aluminum in it I think, but I dont know for sure. My HB wasnt extreme so I never really found out about it.

It's true Leasha some antacids do have aluminium in them. You just need to check which ones. Gaviscon was safe when I was pregnant but I am loathe to say that as it could have changed ingredients. The same with Mylanta - it did have aluminium but that could have changed.

Big hugs , it's awful isn't it? I had shocking heartburn and indigestion when pg with DD. I took Mylanta constantly while pg, I was under the impression it was OK to take.

I hope it passes soon preggie lady .

My doctor said Mylanta was safe but also did mention tums but i cant stand that stuff. I suffered from really bad reflux before falling pregnant and i havent had any at all, oh i did at the beginning but it was when i threw up and it was really acidy. I even had spaghetti last night and that usually is a nightmare but am sweet as pie.

My chemist said it's fine but taking too much of it can block up the other end thus causing a whole other issue
