    Pineapple Juice

I am positive this has been posted before but couldn't find anything.

I'm seven weeks tomorrow and would love some pineapple juice.
However DR Google says no no no no

Is this an old wives tale?
Am I going to increase risks of miscarriage by having a couple of glasses of pine apple juice?

They say not to drink it because it contains bromelain which can cause miscarriage.

If you feel the risk is small, go ahead, but I guess it might be a good thing to ask yourself how would you feel if something went wrong???

That's why I asked I wondered if there was any truth to the tale as it took
So long to get this pregnancy I don't want to jeopardise it.

    Pineapple Juice

I didn't know about any risk at all and drank pineapple juice like crazy with both DS1 & DS2. I actually drank it pretty much every day through both of their pregnancies! Lol.

Google reads like you would have to drink a lot to suffer a miscarriage
Apparently it softens the cervix which is great late late pregnancy to bring on labour but not so great early pregnancy when you want to keep everything in.

It's funny that I crave it but it seems I shouldn't have it

There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that suggests bromelain will induce miscarriage.
The amounts present in pineapple are so small, that the sheer volume you would need to ingest to even begin to worry about this are massive. Totally ridiculous old wives tale.

    Eat the pineapple.

I also just read that the canning process takes away the bad stuff
So it's sounding like a tale...

It's a 'tale' that some FS believe.

Like I said, do whatever you think is right.

In 9 years of being a midwife and 13 years being a nurse, never heard of that.

LOL, not allowed pineapple juice now!!!! If you googled anything you could probably find someone saying that you can't have it when pregnant. I've never heard anything about not having pineapple, and it's not on any of the information sheets about what you can and can't eat. If I were you I would drink it, it's fine.

    Thanks for the replies
I had heard of it last pregnancy but didn't really crave it so it didn't worry me
Then I thought I'd look it up...
I think I'll be doing what I always do and do whatever I want in moderation
