    Postive, Negative, Positive????

    Hi Ladies,

I did a home test last Friday and it was positive, I went to the gp for bloods and the positive was confirmed but no hcg levels given. I went to the gp on Tuesday to have this confirmed and it was negative but no levels given. There has been no bleeding so I did a home test this morning and it was positive. I mean what's the chance of this happening and 5 and a half weeks.
Can a blood test be this wrong???
Hopefully someone out there has more idea than me.

It sounds like a chemical pregnancy. An embryo started to grow then stopped.

A serum blood test is accurate. You will still have HCG in your body (which is why HPTs pick it up). You probably won't get your period until your HCG is almost zero.

I spoke to the early pregnancy team in my area and they have requested a repeat blood test with levels this time.
She said if you have all the symptoms of an early pregnancy, no bleeding or cramping, we need to make sure with a repeat blood and depending on result a dating scan. I'm don't have high hopes but I really hope it's not a chemical pregnancy.

So the test in tues was a blood test? Or poas? Blood tests can be wrong but not often more often the poas is wrong but prob is right If you've had 3 pos results and no bleeding and cramping, I'm guessing you'll just have to have more blood tests and a scan , I have heard of people getting neg blood tests when pregnant but I'm pretty sure they had neg urine test as well either way if its showing on poas it should show on bloods

Well I just heard back from the early pregnancy unit and the results were positive. HCG level of over 6000 which puts me in the 4-6 week category. They think I should go for a dating scan in about a week which I have booked in. So annoyed at the blood test on Tuesday. I have had the worst couple of days.

Congratulations! You would hope not, but I wonder if either your bloods or your results were confused with another patient?

Well I am still puzzled as to what happened on Tuesday but I will be following it up. Pretty bad though.

Same thing happened to me last pregnancy. Home test was a faint pos, urine test at drs was neg and blood test was "pos but unlikely to result in a live baby" as the numbver was so low. He's now 14 months old and keeping me up all night so low numbers don't mean anything.

I was very pregnant all along.
I followed this up with pathology lab this morning and it turns out the result on Tuesday was human error.
They retested my blood and it was very positive.
They apologised and said they had a formal review in process and left it at that.
I have a dating scan booked in for next Thursday. I will be making a complaint to the health commission for this whole process

Yep human error happens I know in our blood lab we keep getting redundancies and loosing staff and a broken computer system but the work keeps increasing not a good combo
Still doesn't make it anymore acceptable though
