    Smile 20 Week Scan

    Hi all,

Does anyone know what is involved with the 20week scan? We are going private, and I just glanced at the OB's fees and it says $2300.. I had minor heart palpatations.

What do they do that costs so much anyone whos been through it know?

    Thanks

    L

I didn't go private, but I'd say that 2300 is your OBs pregnancy management fee, not the cost of the ultrasound.

We went private and they were NO WHERE near that amount from memory somewhere around the $250 mark. The 20 week scan is a morphology scan.

Yep, I would guess that's the management fee, not the cost of the scan. With my Ob, the management fee is paid raised after the 20 week scan and payable by 32 weeks so a fair bit of time to pay it off.

As the others have said - sounds like your planning and management fee from the OB. Mine was $2,970 and I got $474 back, even after reaching the safety net. Medicare now has a cap on obstetrics, which is delightful.

My morphology scan cost $200 and I got $137 back (having reached the safety net), but again, I believe there is a cap on that as well.

Erk thanks guys ! Good old medicare eh Bug'smum? They forbid private health funds to pay for outpaitent services, then dont give you back what a private health fund would.

That was my exact argument with the girl at Medicare. All they are doing is forcing people back into an already overcrowded and overworked public health system! Sucks big time.

Yeah I was really shocked at the costs we had to cover even withtop private cover. The whole business is very counterproductive I agree.
