I was given 2 hammocks with the stands for the twins but after an arguement with DHs mum over nothing to do with us the lady has decided we arent getting them and has put them on ebay Ah well just have to save harder now but what i was wondering is which would you prefer a porta cot or the hammock - are the hammocks safe etc?
Having twins the 2 hammocks fold down to the size of 1 porta cot which would be handy when travelling because they wont fit in one porta cot for long and the hammocks look more comfortable.
So any info, tips, recommendation on porta cots vs hammocks would be greatly appreciated thank you!
porta cots will last longer because it's recommended once they roll to stop using the hammock. if you're looking for a light portacot then google phil and ted's. it's only 2kg compacted.
Haven't had any experience with hammocks but we've just had a rough time with out portacot over Christmas now that DS doesn't use the bassinette insert anymore as DH couldn't lean over to lay him down - he'd have to drop him the last few centimetres, which would wake him right up. Plus, it was soooo much softer than his cot mattress he'd wake up every two hours or so. Which meant I was resettling him every time and got NO SLEEP AT ALL. Not a nice time, I can tell you! Before now, we've used the bassinette insert and loved it (DS slept as normal). We had a baby Pod when DS was little, which was great (Love 'n' Care - for carrying as well as sleeping so very useful) and lots of friends used their prams as beds when travelling. Not sure how a twin pram would go though. HTH
Funny. Ds slept horribly with the bassinet insert of a portacot but is fine without it. I have a steelcraft one and I'm only 5 foot 4 and have no issues bending down to get him in it. It is heavy tho.
The hammocks won't last as long as you think. Maybe four months, six at a stretch. How often do you go away? Could you just buy one portacot and borrow another?
Have a look at the kinderkot. Much easier than a traditional portacot and so very very compact! My friend with twins got them because there is no way they could fit a twin pram and two portacots in their car for holidays.
