Question anyone know anything about lexapro and pregnancy??

    Hi

Just wondering if anyone has any information or experience with lexapro and pregnancy?

I am not pregnant and taking lexapro but am wondering if there is any length of time I should wait before getting pregnant after coming off lexapro?

I made a very difficult (but well researched) decision to start taking lexapro for post natal depression when DD was 8 months old and to continue breastfeeding. I have no regrets about doing this as the medication has helped me enormously to get myself back on track. However, I am not keen to take the medication while pregnant or whilst TTC.

In the last few days I have weaned myself off the medication as we are keen to start trying for #2. BUT I'm worried about how long the medication might stay in my system for and what the possible side effects might be if I fell pregnant straight away. I think it is a class C medication?? There is so much conflicting information out there!!

So to sum up... I've just come off the meds and want to start TTC but wondering if I should wait any set length of time or if it's ok to start trying straight away?

    Thanks for reading,
    Fi

Im not sure how long to wait or anything, but just wanted to stop by and let you know that I have been on Lexapro during this whole pregnancy (my csection is on Thursday) and I haven't had any complications. Im on 20mg and all my scans, blood tests etc have been fine. I know plenty of other women who have also taken Lexapro whilst pregnant and their babies have come out perfectly fine with no side effects or withdrawls. HTH.

Thanks Kristy_lee your post was very reassuring!! The issue of meds and pregnancy/breastfeeding is so confusing, it's so hard to know what you should or shouldn't do.

Best of luck for Thursday - how exciting for you!!

    Thanks

My doctor pretty much told me that if the benefits to the mother outway the risk to the baby its better to stay/go on meds. They're only cautious because unlike drugs like Zoloft it hasn't been hugely researched what the effects are. And its a pretty hard thing to research kwim lol not like you can get a whole bunch of willing pregnant women and say ok we're going to give you this drug and see how we go ay lol
