    Buffets while pg

    Hi all,

This weekend I have my work Christmas party and we are going to a buffet style restaurant. My work does not know that I am pregnant as I want to wait until the new year to tell them cause I will be around 12wks by then.

I know that I should be staying away from buffet food but I need to try and keep my pregnancy a secret. What I am planning to do is eat before we get there and while I am there is just have a small plate of food and pretend like I am eating.

What sort of stuff could be ok? I am going to aim in getting the most freshest stuff there, but just want guidance on what could be ok. Which is probably nothing.. lol

I really wish I didnt need to go but I said I would before I realised that it was a buffet restaurant. I guess I could go and just not eat anything and say I have a tummy bug!!

    TIA

I guess you could eat things that are hot and have just been put out. Eating something before hand is a good idea and then you won't have to eat too much of the buffet food. Its so hard in the beginning when you don't want to tell people but I hope you have a good time!!

Veronica, I'd go with really hot stuff too. Be REALLY careful of salads, listeria likes to hang around in those, and rice too.

Having said that, just be sensible, and don't stress! Have a good night

Thanks guys! I guess I will get anything that looks piping hot... and if anyone questions me what is wrong I will just say I have a tummy bug or something. OR I could just go straight to the desserts! LOL

Be careful with seafood that has been sitting out for awhile. I'd steer clear of the salads and hot food that isn't piping hot. I also second the bread roll and desserts!

Worst part is you won't be able to eat the chocolate mousse - and that's always the best bit about a buffet!!

Yeah. Not happy about the raw eggs - why couldn't they make eggs really good for you and brussel sprouts the bad thing??? And Veronica - how could you not like chocolate mousse - its the best!!!
