I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this. But I wanted people's stories about how their babies coped being born at 36 weeks. What problems you had (if any) with bubs. Thanks in advance

DD was born at 35w 3 days, I think, via crash emergency c-section. She spent 2 weeks in the SCN. She spent a bit of time under the warming lights but had no need UV lights. Was feed through a feeding tube in her nose for a while, then bottle/boob feed (top up with BM/FF). Was hooked up to all the monitors but had no real issues except she went white a few times (can't think of the medical name for it).
Mine was born just after 36 weeks, was 8lb2oz and perfectly fine. My friends was born spot on 36 and spend nearly 3 weeks in nicu so it varies so much! X
DD - 35+2. In SCN for 2 weeks. No suck reflex so fed via naso-gastric tube while we established feeding, couldn't regulate body temp and blood sugar was a bit up and down.
DS - 36+4. Fed like a champion, behaved in every way like a full-termer. Discharged within 4 hours of birth. No probs with anything at all. I've noticed that he still hits wonder weeks a bit later than his actual age would indicate so it looks like there might be a slight developmental lag (of about 3 weeks) but he's thriving.
My twins where born at 36 weeks via c section due pre eclampsia and breech around 2.4kg each no special care needed. Roomed in with me from the first night and came home with me after four days.
My DS3 was born at 36 weeks at 2830g, he spent 11 days in the hospital, he was born with pneumonia so was quite sick, we were sent home earlier than they would usually becaus ewe were so far frome home.
He was tube fed but had his first BF day 3, he was in the incubator for 5 days, jaundice, on o2 for 9 days.
He came home fully BF.
He had some problems with severe reflux and FTT but that is possibly unrelated to his prematurity.
My DD2 was born at 35 weeks and spent 3 days in the nursery, one night in the incubator with o2, BF day 2, never needed a feeding tube....they wanted to bottle or tube but I insisted on being woken for all feeds (long walk to the nursery) Three days rooming in with me and she was released. She was 2210g born and came home at 2kg and was fully BF.
Her main problem was slow to gain weight, but once home she never looked back and has always been a great size.
My nephew was born naturally at 36 weeks, waters broke early. He weighed 2.6 kg. He spent 7 days in hossy, mainly for jaundice and not feeding well. He was a very sleepy baby and would often fall asleep shortly after being offered the booby because he was so exhausted from all the effort to suck. He's now 9 months and thriving.
My mum was born at 34 weeks in the 60's. She only needed to stay a week and they sent her home The only issue I think was she didn't have her sucking reflex yet (I don't think they generally have them at 36 weeks either) so she was FF, but as other posters have shown, BF is still very possible

36 really is the cusp. My DS2 was induced at 36 weeks due to pre-eclampsia and was fine. 2.6 kg, no special care, home within 4 days. My GF from mothers group had her bub at 36 weeks and she was 2.4 kg, needed to be in SCN for a few days as her sucking reflux wasn't 100%.
J was fine but we think he was closer to 38w but nephew was born at 35 + 5 and he is fine. Spent a week in special care being fed and few hours under space light but that's all. I will tell sis to pop in
DD was born at 36 weeks. She was a good size (3450 gms) but her sucking reflex wasn't great. She was very sleepy too. We were discharged five days after she was born but she was readmitted to special care two days later due to jaundice. She spent a couple of days under lights and was fine. When home she slept right through from the first night, I had to set the alarm to wake her up to feed.
DD1 was born at 36+2 and was 6lb30z (about 2.8kg I think) we stayed in hospital 4 days she was int he special care nursery for 8 hours becuase of her temp being a little low, they wanted to leave her there longer as it was change of shift time even though her temp was fine out of the heat lamp so I demanded they bring herback to me. I have wondered if I had more skin to skin if she may have kept her temp up better. She was fine a little sleepy so I had to wake her minimum of 4hrly to feed (only really needed to do it at night) for the first few weeks otherwise no other problems
DD2 was 35+6 and 6lb14oz (about 3.1kg) I think. She was fine and we went home the next day becuase she was early they did do a heel ***** to check her blood sugar when she was born that was a little low but I fed her a couple of times and they rechecked it and that was it. I never had to wake her for feeds little piggy lol. Obs wanted me to stay but I was part of the midwifery group practice so my midwife visited me daily for the first 3 days then every second day for a couple, she also told the obstetric reg that I was a nurse and had already ahd a child and new what I was doing
Both my daughters came early due to PPROM and spontaneous start of labour so I think they were ready to be born which may have accounted for how well they coped coming early, who knows. I BF both DD with no comp feeds and apart from having to wake DD1 and both girls having breastfeeding related jaundice which self resolved I had no problems
Good luck. If you are thinking bubs will be here early go and have a look around the special care nursery if you can so you know what to expect. Bubs will be fine either way I hope for your sake they can stay with you
DS was born at 36+3, 2.6kg and was in the SCN for 2 days, had trouble regulating his body temp and needed a bit of oxygen, very quick vaginal delivery and he had a bit of amniotic fluid in his lungs. BF well and gained weight steadily. Went home on Day 6. We did end up back in the SCN when he was 8 days old as he was jaundice and spent 2 days under the 'lights', but totally thrived from there. He's fine now (still a tiny guy but healthy as a bull)
as you know DD2 was born at 36 weeks on the dot, boofa head of a kid, 3.55kg, fed like she had a boob in the uterus to practise on, had no breathing issues at all, her bsl's were a smidge low, but she had a formula top up only the once and they were fine after that, no issues with her temp ect. she never left my side and we were home after 1 night in hossy
only thing i noticed was she was alot mroe sleepy than DD1 and refused to open her eyes for 7 days! and would u know what, she's still a stubborn little troll
Babies born at 36weeks?
The only issue I think was she didn't have her sucking reflex yet (I don't think they generally have them at 36 weeks either) so she was FF, but as other posters have shown, BF is still very possible
