Why are some babies born BIG and some small? My Obs tells me that my baby is going to be a 'good size baby'.. to early to tell how much of a 'good size' she will be but what did I do to contribute to this (not meaning to be negative). Is it genetics? did i eat too much? too many vitamins etc... Just wanted to understand what creates a big baby v average size v small baby.
I do feel like I am running out of room. I am sometimes so uncomfortable. Sometimes when she moves it gets a bit painful... I wasn't surprised that he said she was of good size - hehehe
Bear in mind that obstetricians like to define any baby that looks/feels to them to be over 7lbs as a "good sized baby". I was told this when I was pregnant with both of my kids who weighed 7lb3oz and 8lbs at birth. Very "average" sized little citizens
Your baby is the perfect size and just the size it's meant to be You didn't "do" anything except give it a safe and healthy environment to grow in.
It's perfectly normal to feel like you're running out of room in the third trimester...even women carrying 6lb babies feel like this. It's not just a baby in there remember - there is a big placenta and a few litres of fluid too. No wonder it feels like you're running out of real estate .
Thanks Tobily for that very positive reply. I have been very positive through this pregnanct maybe I am just getting a little nervous now! Normal... and you are right, she is the perfect size and just the size she is meant to be!
Thanks to BeautifulMadness and *charmalea* for your supporting replies as well
I'm not sure there's any rhyme or reason to it TBH. I only put on 6kg and DD was almost 4kg (8lbs 10 oz).
Genetically, she was not meant to be that big either as DP and I were both skinny as kids (not as adults because we both eat and drink too much). So DD was born on the 90th percentile and has since slid down to about the 10th so she's got back to where she was meant to be in the first place.
