Has anyone taken Tramal SR during their pregnancy?

Hi all, I am 14 weeks pregnant and an avid reader of the Belly Belly forums, but this is the first time I've actually posted.

I recently had a nasty case of bronchitis, and managed to crack a rib from coughing so much. The pain was pretty bad so my GP called my obstetrician, who advised that Tramal SR was safe for me to take for pain relief. In the end I only took it twice (100mg each time) because it gave me headaches and Panadol Extend ended up being enough for pain relief, however I just did a Google search on Tramal SR and found out it is Category C. My sister also just told me that it is an opiate and she's surprised my obstetrician was ok with it.

Does anyone know anything else about this? I can't seem to find much on Google beyond the standard product information that just says do not take if you are pregnant. I'm kicking myself for not doing a search before taking it, but I was in so much pain at the time!!

    Thanks heaps

Yes it is an opiate but it is safely used under medical supervision. It is routinely used in antenatal wards. Due to my own illness it was required in my last pregnancy.

If you are in pain and it was necessary it is okay. Prolonged use is not recommended but how you used it is fine.

Often well meaning rellies can frighten you. Please feel placated. It is used when necessary safely.

Thanks Flowerchild, that makes me feel a lot better. I'm quickly discovering it's hard to avoid paranoia during pregnancy, especially as this is my first! Thanks again x
