i'm sorry i have looked for a post i saw not too long ago about this and i can't find it, so hoping someone can add some more imput.
i have nearly filled out my birthing plans (i know left it till the last min literally), i am writing two, one for natural and one for ceaser, anyone care to share what they had in their plans that went well for them during labour/birth.
hope it all goes to plan
i found birth plans where all a waste of time and I just needed to be open minded and go with the flow I think it is the baby the decides how things are going to go on the day
Planning for something you have no idea about and inevitably the plans seem to go out the window.
What would be interesting to know, is if there is anyone out there whose birth actually slightly matched the birth plan.
My wasn't even close!!
I'll do one this time too, but I have more idea of what to expect this time. Last time I think I was basing my birth plan on births I had seen on A Country Practice - where they don't even sweat and no one seems to have to come in with a mop afterwards.

I guess it depends on how you view a birth plan, and why you are writing it.
I dont go in with any expectation that it will go according to my plan, which is why my plan is 2 pages long, as it cater for a lot of different events.
However there are things in there that Im not prepared to negotiate on, like which part of my arm the cannula is placed into if I need to have a drip, or requesting double stitching if I need a c/s.
I see it more as, assuming all things are equal this is what my preferences are.
They might be a bit too personal to share, but if they aren't it would be great if some of you ladies were able to post your birth plans. As a first time mum I have preferences for how I would like my labor/birth to go, but no idea where to start when it comes to putting together a birth plan. It would be wonderful to see how others have treated it.
Kelly's got a great downloadable template too. I based my plan around this one, made a few changes. (And acknowledged Kelly as the author of the template )
I think birth plans are great regardless of whether or not it is your first. It encourages you to really think about what might be important to you. I think this is really valuable not only to your attending medical staff, but also to your support person/s. (Either that, or have a really good chat with them about what your preferences are.)
Sure, stuff happens when you give birth that you can't control. But to me, not thinking about your preferences just because you think you might not get them is a bit defeatist.
If you are hoping for a natural birth particularly, it's good for people to know it, IMO. I wanted a drug-free birth last time round (it was my first time and yes, I had no idea of how painful it would be etc. Some might consider that to be idealistic, but it was certainly achievable) and so no one ever offered me drugs. Made it much easier to have that drug-free birth - I didn't request them and no one offered. (Oh, except for DH when I was in transition, LOL! But that was because he wasn't coping with my pain, PMSL!) So because I made that clear to people beforehand, they were able to help me out.
One thing I didn't have preferences about last time was AROM and managed 3rd stage. Last time I had both because I just hadn't considered my options.
This time round I am requesting that I not have either. I realise I may get PPH and the synto shot will be necessary. But my preference is not to have it, and I'd like my care providers to know that.
