boy/girl?

Hi all, I'm not PG (but hoping to be soon!)
I was just wondering, in scans, how can you tell if it is a boy or a girl?
I have seen loads of pictures but I'm unsure on how you can tell?

This might sound reallly strange but for a girl you can see three lines. I was a little confused by this as it sounded really odd, but when I had my scan I didn't have to wait for them to tell me as I saw them straight away...and after a few scans of confirmation now we're definitely having a girl.

Not sure if that's the most prominent one as I haven't heard anything for how you know if it's a boy...not sure if you can too early.
