    Breech baby?

    Hello everyone,
I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant with my first bub and I have found out just tody that my baby is breech. The bub has it's legs up near it's chin, as found out by ultrasound today. The ob had no idea, even when he felt my tummy, until he put the scanner on. I'm a little scared, they want to do an 'External Cephalic Version' to try and turn the bub and I was wondering what other ppls experiences with this were.
Also, I have so many different doctors cause I am at the public pregnancy clinic and each one is telling me something different. I have one telling me that I will have to have a c-section, once telling me it depends on who is on when I go into labour, one telling me they can deliver it naturally and another telling me I should schedule for a c-sec at 38 weeks. Its rather frustrating.

If anyone has some insights into their experience with a breech bub I'd like to hear them

I have just had a breech baby, I was private so maybe a little different but my OB didn't deliver breech babies any other way but c-section. There are dr. that will deliver breech babies naturally but most will say it needs to be c-section. I didn't try turning as I had high blood pressure and dr. said it would put too much pressure on me and baby.

My c-section experience has been very positive, 2 weeks after and I am pain free, moving freely. Was moving quite well 24 hrs afterwards but everyone is different.

Try moxibustion sticks also try putting a cold thing at top of belly and trying to get baby to turn alos you can try accupuncture!!

Moxibustion can work really well and so can the accupuncture!!

Very few drs will deliever a 1st baby vaginally breech due to insurance and safety!!

    Good luck

I would be asking them what experience they have with breech... if the doctor attending your birth is skilled in breech birth then go for it, but it can be safer to have a c/s if the doctor is not skilled in breech. If you are going public and dont know what doctor you will have, can you beg and grovel for one of the breech doctors?

I agree with feeb's tips - if you can get bubs to turn then its not a worry!!! The spinning babies website is very helpful.

emlugsdin - I'm 35 wks today and bubs is breech. I'm in a rural area and there is only one ob who apparently doesn't do breech birthda, so if bubs doesn't turn I'll have to have a Csection. We see the ob next week to talk about it more and he might try ECV.

Spinning babies has a few good tips. Going on your hands and knees and putting your head down so your bum is up in the air. I've also seen a suggestion for reclining backwards - the general idea is for gravity to take over and bubs head to get squashed against the top of your uterus so they try and move. Also, try playing music down low or get your partner to talk to it down low so they are attracted to the voice.

The midwife suggested acupuncture to me the other day.

Fingers crossed both of ours get themselves into gear!!

I found out my baby was breach at 36 weeks also. I tried the ECV the next week and it didn't work so i ended up having a c-section at 39 weeks. It went really well and the baby came into the world fine. I recovered pretty well and 3 months on I am back at the gym and doing all my normal things!

Good luck and have fun being a mum!
