can a blood test be wrong?

took 2 home pregnancy tests a few weeks ago and they were possitive. I went to the dr. and they took a blood test and I had 320 hcg which would make me about 4 weeks. I had bleeding for about 2 weeks. Some days it was just spotting like brownish color. a few days it was like i was having a period. No cramping no nothing I felt fine. Ive had a few symptoms of pregnancy but not as much as other ppl and books are telling me I "should be having" I do get tired a lot. my breasts dont really ache much and there has been no growth there (darn lol) I havent really had much morning sickness at all I just get a little nausious somethimes. I called the obgyn about the bleeding and she said they dont take ppl till they are at 8 weeks (so I go in wednedsay) she said she would have a nurse call me about the bleeding (which has stopped completely) but everytime the nurse called I was working and could never get back in touch with her. I took another dollar stor pregnancy test last week (people were telling me I might have miscarried or had what was called a chemical pregnancy...?) I took the test and i couldnt really see the line. if it was there it was faint so im not sure how it came out. This is my first child so of course im freaking out lol. I'm 26 by the way and everyone is so excited about this baby I just dont know if I could bear it if something was wrong

Hmmm, difficult to say. I had very few symptoms of early pregnancy until about 8 weeks, but even then they weren't much. Don't worry about what the books say you "should" feel. Everyone is different. Did you go to the GP about the bleeding? It might be worth getting a repeat blood test, they will be able to tell you if the numbers are increasing as they should or if they have decreased (which could indicate a miscarriage) I would go and ask for another blood test before you go to the OB.

good luck!! I hope bubs is fine

I 100% agree with glenny_c Even if you did miscarry (I certainly pray that is not the case for you), a home pregnancy test may still show up positive as they detect a hcg level of 25 - 50 which you could still have in your system. Another blood test is the only way you will know for sure. The numbers should have doubled (or close to doubled) every two days.

    Wishing you all the best

Ask to have 2 blood tests to check your levels 2 days apart. This will show if your levels are increasing. If you are almost 8 weeks, bub should be visible on an ultrasound so you could ask for a dating scan to check bub is ok.

Bleeding in pregnancy can be really worrying, but doesn't always mean bad news.

I agree with the other girls. Ask for a HCG blood test at your GP. The value should double every 2-3 days. Early pregnancy is definitely a scary time. I didn't have morning sickness until week 6 and haven't had sore (.)(.) at all so don't go by symptoms of pregnancy. Oh and HCG can't accurately tell you how far along you are, a doubling every 2-3 days tells you that things are progressing as good as they can be in the early stages.

    Good Luck
