This little guy is measuring 13 days ahead of the ob's dates and 8 days ahead of mine (by ultrasound). I know they allow for 2 weeks either way around this time, but when would they choose to change my due date? If I go next friday and he is now 14 or 15 days ahead of their dates will they try and change EDD?
I have been measuring 2 weeks ahead at all of my appointments. They still haven't changed my due date....I don't know if they will change your due date at this late stage?!
I think around this time your OBs will just be looking for growth and not where you are measuring..unless it is considerably more or less than what you should be measuring.
I'd just ask at your next appointment and see what your OBs has to say then.
For dates, its really only the early ultrasounds they look at. The later ultrasounds aren't accurate as far as dates are concerned, as it is affected by if you have a big/small baby. So they usually won't change a date if it shows the baby is measuring ahead on a later ultrasound.
For example, my baby was measuring 2-3 weeks ahead of dates in the later u/s's I had (20+ weeks), but I went into labour spontaneously on my due date, so his dates were correct. He was just a large weight baby and also above the 97% line in height, which explains why he measured ahead that much in dates in late u/s's. His dad is tall so he was just genetically a bigger baby than average, and the dates and sizes are just that, averages.
If you had an early u/s, that is far more accurate. My EDD was determined on my 6 week ultrasound as I didn't have an LMP date.
I hope that's what you are asking. If it's not, I'm sorry. I can't believe you are 28 weeks now, you've done so well!
yep i have heard that they take the earliest ultrasound date, and that they get more inaccurate as time goes on so as long as it is growing well the OB is not going to worry about the dates of measurement (unless wildly different like 5 weeks or something in which case I guess they would do more tests for other complications)
No they shouldn't Clare... u/s measurement of the baby prior to 12 weeks gives the most accurate indicator of gestational age. This is because embryos grow at a fairly consistent rate. After 12 - 13 weeks a couple of weeks into the fetal stage - familial traits kick in - babies can be a bit smaller than dates or as in your case bigger and this is just their genetic make up.
My babies often measure ahead too - and I have larger babies... *Bob* is a healthy little baby growing beautifully!
Ok, the thing that has me confused is I had 3 scans by 12 weeks. The first one Bob's EDD was 14th Sept, (measured 5w6d, my dates 6w4d) Second EDD 9th Sept (measured 9w3d, my dates 9w3d, third scan EDD 2nd Sept (measured 13w5d, my dates 12w4d)
So which one would be the more accurate one? The earliest at 6w where they couldn't see anything, or the one at 9 weeks were they could actually get a proper measurement?
I am only concerned because if I go overdue by 10 days when they induce (I know I am a bit ahead of myself ) by their dates, I would be 16 days over by my dates. (I was temping and only bd once so I am pretty definate my dates are more accurate than earliest scan) Is it safe to go over 16 days?
Like I said I know I am a bit ahead of myself, and hopefully this little one will be like Shelby and come a day or two early but I am just abit concerned
Usually the earlier the scan the more accurate but I dispute that depending on the quality of the machine. You know your body and when you conceived - I personally would go by your 9 week u/s where it is easier to get a more accurate measurement.
I understand you concerns - but really affirm with your careproviders that you know when you coneived and that your 9 week u/s confirms this. This should be fine Clare...
The scan I had at nine weeks was spot on for dates and I know exactly when we conceived, but at the 20wks scan he was a week ahead on dates, but we are keeping the original date as I too have a history of larger babies. Currently I am measuring about 5 weeks ahead, but that is purely because of his position - his head is way up the top and sits quite high - so it would be silly to change dates becuase of that.
I'm with Deb on this one and would go with the 9wks scan.
