Hiya Nox! How are you going gorgeous!
Ahhhhhh your DH is a sweety! Tell him not to worry! 1st time bubbas are notorious for being a little longer and a bit selective about when they come. and I will be there too!!!! Trust me - you will know when YOU want to go to hossie, and the stairs are great for getting things moving anyway! Most of the time we first time mums can jump the gun a bit, so unless you are unable to talk through contractions, it is more than likely early labour! We will have another big chat just after I have bubs anyway.
Of course I will let you know when I have bubs! Tomorrow would be great actually, but I don't think I am that lucky!
How exciting about setting up the room, can't wait to see it! It makes it all the more real and exciting!
-
It's very funny actually we have had about 5 girls we know have babies recently -- all first time mums and all early!!!!! So he is beside himself a bit! haha
Anyway I have assured him that we will be ok and worst case senario, he can deliver the baby himself and what a story that would be!!!
Well, you never know re your baby -- it is sooooo close to the DDay!! perhaps you have created a too nice and cosy little home environment for him!
-
Relle - would have liked you to go into labour today lol!!!!
Nox - i took maternity leave and annual leave in May 2006 and have just returned. I am one of the very fortunate ones to get paid maternity leave for 12 months so I was definately going to take it lol!!! I originally worked 3 days a week but will be doing 2 days until Jan 2008 when I will go back to 3. Chelsea is in creche/kinder program on Tues and Thurs and Marley will go to MIL. Next year Chelsea will be at school so Marley will go to creche 2 days a week and MIL for one day. Its all very confusing! Can't believe its only 2 months away. Tell your DH not to stress, but most first time dads too. Relle will be there to keep him calm. I'm sure you'll be the calm one. Very exciting setting up the nursery, what colours have you chosen?
-
Ohhhh Mel - How much would I love to have gone into labour - I would have already had a babysitter on hand! hehehehehe
I am having a massage tonight, so I am really looking forward to that and she is going to try and bring on labour as well, but seriously though - a nice massage will be ace!
-
You are wonderfully lucky, Mel with the 12m leave. I work as an independent, so in theory, I can also have all the time I need (of course, no work, no $$). I am trying to not over plan myself, but I do have a terrible habit of freaking out without work, so over committing to work! I just keep trying to remember that I only have 2 months til baby and I am yet to know what that means ... so chill out! I'll see what projects are going on and make a decision then. I have put my name down for 2 childcare places from 6m just in case and of course there are parents ...
We don't know sex of kid, so the room is very simple really. I couldn't be bothered painting it (I am SO lazy these days) so we have left it pretty much white(ish). We have some very cute things to put on the wall that will liven it up and add colour though. I have been very fortunate that a girlfriend has given me heaps of stuff and the room is already lively!
Relle, good luck to day. You are back w Dr D? If you are in labour around 730pm, give a loud scream and I will hear you downstairs in the class!! Fingers crossed for you! Can Dr D give some indication how far he thinks? Can you tell how far away you think? SO EXCITING!
Hope the massage helped as well. You def deserve more of that!
-
relle - i'm logging on with bated breath every day to see if your time has come yet!! i hope you enjoyed your massage last night and she pulled out whatever tricks she could to bring on labour - i never knew massage could help?!
nox - can you believe we're so far along already?! i'm a little way behind you still (funny that!), but i remember when the two of us were barely PG and i thought our time would NEVER come!! you're very organised having your baby booked into childcare already - maybe i should get onto it... i'm not planning on going back to work for at least a year (and even then i want a change of career - i've been bored with my job for ages now so not really interested in going back to it), but i want to organise care for the baby for two mornings a week so that i can get out and do things for myself - haircuts, waxing, exercise, shopping, etc... i have no family in melbourne and my DH works REALLY long hours so i'll pretty much have the baby 24/7/365 otherwise... have you looked at many daycare places around the malvern/armadale/caulfield area? can you recommend any to me?
Mel - i've never heard of anyone getting 12 months paid maternity leave before - that's awesome!! i was about to quit my job in Jan (i am an engineer and have been bored with it for ages) and start up my own property development business of some description, but then i found out that i was PG (unplanned) so thought i may as well hang around and get the 13 weeks paid maternity leave our company offers (which i think is pretty generous!)...
ok, well am off for my diabetes test now. not looking forward to it... i hope that i don't vomit with the taste of that syrup they give you.. and i hope my veins have enough blood in them (have had a few problems at my last few blood tests - it seems my blood never wants to come out!!)... i arranged the test for Prahran so that i could go shopping on Chapel St in the 1-hr wait, but on the phone yesterday the lady said that i had to wait in the waiting room - doh!! i'll see if i can twist her arm...
labour vibes Relle!!

Morning girls!
Oh Ella and Nox - I wish! The massage was great, and she did a few pressure points and what do you know, I had regular stronger"tightenings" for about 3 hours afterwards till about 2am then pettered off, and then are back again a bit this morning, but a bit irregular.
I am in to see Dr D tomorrow, so with all of these tightenings I will more than likely get him to do an internal and see if they are actually doing anything.
Goodluck with your test hun, the first time is not that bad, I think it gets worse in each subsequent pregnancy!
Nox - I will promise to yell if I do manage to get into labour properly today, but I am not counting on it!
My DH has stayed home from work to give me a hand with the boys today, as I was awake for most of the night and feeling pretty exhausted and we all have colds,( mine is not too bad atm) but the boys have been up through the night as well and wouldn't go back to sleep from 5am.
Heres hoping that things pick up over the next day while he is here. I bet it won't though!
-
can i be as ignorant to ask what "tightenings" are?! are they just Braxton Hicks contractions, or are they more like period cramps?
enjoy having your DH around today Relle, and maybe the baby will take the hint that you're all ready for him and make his appearance before you get a chance to make it to your next Dr D visit!
also, is it normal not to have any Braxton Hicks contractions yet (28.5 weeks)? i feel like i'm missing out on something!
i had my GD test this morning. the drink wasn't that bad at all (just like undiluted soda stream syrup!) and the blood test was the best i've ever had - didn't even feel the needle go in!! hopefully the results are good and i'm not called in to see Dr D again before my next scheduled appointment...
-
Hi girls - quick post while at work! Nearly time to go home so why not lol!!
Nox - I couldn't believe it when I was told I could get 12 mths paid leave, thought I'd hit the jackpot! It is pretty good. Good idea to get booked into childcare now as some of the waiting lists are horrendous. I only have my MIL and I feel really guilty asking her too many times, don't want to push my luck lol! I'm sure the babies room will fill up soon enough. We didn't find out the sex of either baby and kept the rooms gender neutral. You can always add colour other ways.
Ella - I work at a university and they are so family friendly. Great daycare facilities that you can salary sacrifice, and paid mat leave. Come and get a job lecturing after bub is born and you could prob still run your own business too! The tightenings are literally that, a real pull in your tummy, like your belly is going hard. I didn't have any Braxton Hicks with first pregnancy and only very mild ones with second (but very late in pregnancy), so don't worry, its a good thing if you don't get them, won't keep you up all night. LOL about the soda stream! Haven't had one of those in ages. Glad the drink didn't make you gag.
Relle - ohh how exciting, those tightenings are hopefully a good sign. What a sweety DH is! Make the most of it and try to get some rest. Hope the boys feel better soon too. Massive, huge, gigantic, enormous labour vibes are coming your way. Little Man, get out!!!!! LOL!!
-
Hi Nox goodluck with you prennatal classes i actually really enjoyed it last time!!!By the your hubby sounds like a hoot!! With my first my hubby wanted to know if i was going to eat my lunch, nut hey i got him back with my last birth i twisted his nipples so hard that they nearly snapped off!!:cryinglaugh:
Tell me what you got in the the bounty bag this time i might go just for the bag:D
Last time they had Choccies!!!
Mel - how lucky are you to get 12 months maternity leave!
Ella it is very normal with your first to not have Braxton hicks till about 35 weeks.
I can't believe you thought the drink was ok the last time i had it i nearly passed out:redface:
Relle - God i swear you are going to go into labour real soon i can't believe your still here when you should be in the hotel cabrini,, i have never seen anyone carry that low in my life you must be in excruciating pain.
Hang on - you can do it.
Well i had a pretty poohey day except for my morning catch up with Relle.
I started to get really upset over the boy thing, Robbie came home to a crying wife. i have to get over it, the worst thing is that i am hanging onto that small glimmer of hope that it's a girl!! Oh well i will find out for sure in a weeks time.
Good night lovely girls i am of to bed
-
ooh good, glad to hear that it's not unusual for me not to have any Braxton Hicks contractions yet... am sure the first time i get one i'm going to get the fright of my life as well!!
Mel - hhmmn, being a uni lecturer could be a good gig... although i'm afraid that i'm not qualified enough to lecture in anything!! i have an engineering degree with honours and a commerce degree, but would need to go back and do a Phd or something first i'm sure... have often thought of being a highschool maths and science teacher (would just need to do a dip ed i think).. anyway, plenty of time to think about my future over the next year!! might become a professional baby oven for the next few years if i enjoy the mummy gig!! it's quite funny.. this baby was unplanned (my DH didn't want to start trying for a while because he said that we were too young), but now he keeps asking me when we're going to have the next one - and this one isn't even out yet!! i think secretly it's just because he wants to keep going until he gets the little rugby player he was hoping for!!
Ros - sorry to hear that you're struggling with gender disappointment at the moment... hope the sex can be confirmed soon as well so that you can at least rid yourself of the uncertainty..
it's funny the things that men think about.. my DH hasn't asked many questions about my pregnancy or the birth yet, but he asked the other day if the baby would be allowed to stay up and watch the rugby with him on foxtel?! i said that i'm sure the baby would love to watch the rugby and i'll make sure i express some milk and make a night of it with my girlfriends if he's happy to sit at home on the couch with her!!
Relle - good luck with your appointment today!!
well, have my first Calm Birth course tomorrow with Diane Gardner - looking forward to it!
-
Hi girls,
Ros - sweety, You are fully entitled to feel devasted and dissapointed at finding out about this bub possibly being a boy. I know how much you want to experience a little girl. Dr D is right hun, you need to grieve for what will not be, don't underestimate that.
Don't forget babe, not only are you dealing with the dissapointment, but you are also dealing with the overload of hormones that are going on as well. I am sending you loads of :hug:
Ella - I totally agree - do not stress at all about feeling nothing! I had absolutely none with Campbell or even Cooper for that matter, but this one has been a whole different kettle of fish! Tightenings all of the time over the last week! Just lap it up love and enjoy the good run you are having!!! DH's are so funny with what they come out with when they get used to the idea of being a Dad! How wonderful that he is asking those questions though! Goodluck with your Calmbirth course, I am sure you will love it! My backup Doula is now a Calmbirth practitioner as well and she absolutely loves it!
Mel - HUn, you are the best! I am taking all of the labour vibes I can muster hun.
Well I went to see Dr D and asked him to do an internal, and I am really glad I did. I am 2-3cm dilated and my cervix is well applied, and he pushed the baby's head to show me where he was (ouch!lol) so basically my body is ready to roll as soon as it decides! I am really glad I asked him to do it, cause now I am feeling a bit more positive about hanging on to go naturally.
Well that is about it from me! Hope everyone else is having a great day!
-
Go RElle
ohohohohohoho!! hooray - Awesome Relle so those copntractions aren't for nothing!!!!
-
wow, 2-3 cm dilated - that's AWESOME!! woo hoo!! very excited for you!
-
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Relle!!!! You go bogan :D
Ella: you will love Di Gardener! she is a legend, calmbirth is the way to go,
i had a wonderful labour thanks to calmbirth!!!!!!!!
-
Fahncy arse! how is the mighty Quinn treating you?
When are you getting up the duff with no 2 by the way??????
-
kirsten - oh, i didn't realise that you'd done calmbirth... is your birth story posted on BB anywhere? was it just yourself and your DH there while you were in labour, or did you have a doula as well?
i'm so excited about it!!
-
She knows a good Doula for next time now ;)
