    Question Vitamin question

I don't seem to be able to take the vitamins which are meant to be important. They make me feel like i have really bad morning sickness, is this maybe a sign that my body just doesn't need them or what do others think? I have a fairly good diet of assorted food groups and generally don't eat rubbish much.

They did the same thing to me too. Could you try eating them at different tomes of the day, see when they are best suited?

The only supplement i have taken during pregnancy is folic acid. Like you, my diet has always been pretty good so i didnt find it necessary to take them - plus im bad at taking tablets, they make me gag

The blackmore gold that i bought are meant to be taken with food which i was doing but thinking maybe it was my bodies way of telling me that i didn't need them.

With multivitamins you need to take them with food.

With Elevit imho it has given me some nutrients which imho you have an extra load your body has to handle in pregnancy.

I use the Natures Own Pregnancy Platinum as they are cheaper and have the same ingredients as the other pregnancy vitamins plus you don't have to take them with food and you only take one tablet a day!

Elevit didn't agree with me at all last time (too much iron in it I think) and Blackmores have great advertising but there are others that do the same for a much better price.

The folic acid in them is very important but there are lots of other goodies which are very beneficial to your baby (and you!). Things like iodine, fish oil, calcium, etc. Yes, a healthy diet *can* be sufficient but you do need more vitamins (than when you're not pregnant) to help your unborn baby grow, so unless your diet is adjusted accordingly to get all those extra goodies then vitamins really are the way to go - just to be sure.

Also, if you're suffering from MS or nausea, or simply food aversions, it's unlikely you'd be getting everything you really need. I lived on icy poles and not much else from 6-14 weeks while PG with DD so my vitamins literally were a lifesaver.

Thanks Taurean i might look for the Natures own next time i'm shopping These Blackmores ones are literally like taking horse pills. I also tried Elevit when pregnant with DS2 and i couldn't take them either, didn't agree with me.

I take the natures own ones too...they are about the same size as the blackmores, but yeah, you only need one and it can be whenever. I like them, blackmores made me puke!

No probs Like PZ said, they are still big but as they are cheaper and you only have to take one a day, they are a lot easier to swallow

    Hi There,

I was taking blackmores gold up until about 15 weeks, I found they were making me very ill aswell, a few days after I stopped taking them I felt so much better. Since then I had a break and tried taking them again but breaking them up a little and BAM I was very ill again..

The Folic Acid is the main thing for bubs development which you can buy in blackmores too on their own.. This is pretty important up to the 12 weeks or a little further. Other than that the pregnancy gold ones are for you and your wellbeing, bub will take what he/she needs from you so if you decide to stop taking them bub will be ok and wont be missing out. If you maintain a healthy diet and eat your enriched foods you will get what you need that way.

Good luck with your pregnancy xx

as long as ur eating fine u dont need to take pregnancy vitamins unless u have a deficiency (apart from folic acid) they are very prone to make u sick, i was taking them at the start cuz i could hardly eat, but stopped taking them once i could eat! even when i had REALLY bad morning sickness (couldnt eat or drink, was nearly put in hospital) my doc said still dont bother taking them cuz unless u take vitamins all the time its something 'different' for ur body so its again more prone to make u sick!
