    Question Epi-No

Anyone used it or know of someone that has?? Did it work?? What are your thought??

I saw my OB yesterday and was discussing my birth options with her as I sustained a 3rd deg tear with DD and still get pain from it all. I definately would prefer a natural borth but am terrified of tearing like that again. I asked her if there was anything I could do to prepare the area to reduce my chances of tearing and she suggested the Epi-no to me. Apparently the studies in the US have shown good results from the use of it, but I don't really know how you could come to the conclusion that it helps when some people tear and others don't, but I'm not scientist!!!

TIA any info would be much appreciated!

Ah, well, I used it, but.... didn't really get to test whether it worked as I ended up with an episiotomy... because of forceps delivery.... because of foetal distress.... because of induction.
They are expensive. I've heard massage during labour (when you're naturally stretchier) as well as careful management by midwife during delivery is the best way to help avoid tearing.

Thank you very much for your replies ladies, yes they are expensive, $180, which I only saw this afternoon
Hmmmm so far one not so good report and the other not so great either, but with certain circumstances.
    Food for thought!
    Anyone else had an experiences??

    Re: Epi-No

I had one, but didn't get to see the results either as I ended up with an emergency c/s. But, I don't know if I'd use it next time... it felt like such a time commitment and I didn't make as much progress as I'd have liked.
