I am finally 34 weeks pregnant after 5 miscarriages and 1 ectopic pregnancy. At the start of the pregnancy I was diagnosed with Factor v leiden and put on clexane and low dose aspirin. They presume that the previous miscarriages were from micro clots. The ob that I had when I was diagnosed told me that I would continue the clexane up unitl 48hrs before being induced at 38 weeks. Unfortunately he retired and I have a new ob. This ob has said that I will stop the clexane 1 week prior to being induced at 38 weeks. When I questioned him about why so early he said it was 'the norm'. Then I met another lady with FVL and she said that she was told just to stop taking the clexane when she felt that she was in labour!! I am really worried that stopping a week early may be too early?? Can micro clots form during the week that I stop and harm the baby? What are others experiences?
Hey Mel
I too are on clexane for FVL hetero and I have been told that I will stop taking mine 48 hours b4 my csection then start again the morning after.
As a nurse pre-op patients generally stop at least a minimum of 12hrs prior to surgery, preferably 24 depending on risk factors. Maybe the ob is concerned about spontaneous labour and delivery prior to you planned induction and not having enough time for the clexane to exit your system? Do you see a haematologist at all, maybe ask their opinion. Good luck with your birth
You need to call the doctor. Honestly. Advice from BB members should never replace your doctors advice. If you don't like what this doctor is saying, call another one.
