I am 27 weeks pregnant and I've had a stressful few weeks moving in and out of home as our house is painted and floorboards sanded and polished. At the moment the paint smell is gone (both water based and gloss were used) but it's been one week and the house still smells terribly of floor polish lacquer. I am wondering if anyone knows when it is safe to move back in? I don't know whether i am being over the top about protecting the baby but i am just worried that the solvents in the polish might do some harm?? It gives me a headache just being in the house. I can't find any research or recommendations on the net.
I'd check with your health care provider just to be sure. They say you should avoid strong fumes while pregnant so I'd be inclined to steer clear until the smell has settled. If it's giving you a headache already, chances are you will only feel a lot worse after a night in the house.
Enjoy the new floorboards when you're ready to move back in permanently!
