I'm posting this about 45 minutes too late, but I'm curious...
I am under the care of one of the best high risk OB's in Melbourne (his name comes up all the time as "the guy"). He told me that he'd like me to get a flu shot asap despite the fact that the end of the first trimester is still a number of weeks away. He said there's no reason not to do it now - other than that my GP may not be comfortable with it. She was OK, and thus I did - but I'm now wondering - what have others been told?
Firstly Julie, I am so happy for you that your BFP finally came. Congratulations hun. How many weeks are you? I was told that having the flu shot was ok during pgcy, but I havent worried about it.
I hope someone can help ease your mind that has had it done while pg.
Congrats again. hugs
I've had it done for both my pregnancies - with DD, I was only about 6wks when I had it done, my GP is very pro-flu shot and she said that being in my first tri during the "peak" flu season put me in the high risk category. This was about June when I had it.
Then when I went in to confirm my second pg, she told me to have the H1N1 (swine flu) vax, as I went in to see her in about Sept, and she said they were expecting an upswing with the swine flu around March/April. Then she told me to make sure I had the seasonal flu vax when it was offered through my work as I'd be in a high risk category again during "peak" flu season - third tri.
So I've actually had three flu shots during my two pregnancies!
Thanks csab - I'm being a bit ridiculous - I am not ready to make any announcements given my past experiences but I have these questions that make it obvious. When I'm ready I'll do a ticker and make it formal but I'm just too jaded at the moment (but also cautiously excited).
OP - thanks! I think this was my OB's concern - it is coming up on flu season and he wanted me vaccinated.
Congratulations! Hope all is going well.
As for flu shots and pregnancy, I think it really depends who you ask. I guess if you trust your caregivers then go with that.
