So lately my nose is sooo blocked I cant breathe, and being 36 weeks its already hard enough trying to breathe without a blocked nose!! So I went to the chemist and got a nasal spray they said was fine for pregnancy as long as its not prolonged or excessive use.
It's the sutafed spray. The pharmacist checked the category for it and it didn't have one in her book and said it was fine, I googled it and it came up with it being fine but category C for prolonged or excessive use...
The dosage recommended is 1-2 sprays in each nostril 3 times a day for 3 days.. I have only been doing it once in each nostril before bed (so once per day) since last Wednesday. Do you think it is ok cause I am only using it once per day 1 time in each nostril?? I'm a little worried but I cannot sleep without breathing through my nose and it's really bad! FESS spray does nothing at all!! I may just stop using it for a few days and see if I can bare it and start again next week for the same time?
The ingredient in it is: oxymetazoline.
I cannot wait until I can take what I need to when I am sick!!!
There has not been enough research on this to say yes it is safe. However the reseach done so fare has not found any problems. I think once a day should be fine
See I asked for and she said it was a cat B3!!! My SIL said the same thing but the pharmasist wouldn't give it to me! The sutafed one is more dangerous then rhinocort..
Maybe I'll go somewhere else cause the rhinocort I could use more often then hey?
I have been on just the generic nasal spray now for nearly 15 years due to chronic rhinitis. 2 operations have done nothing so my specialist and my gp have told me to continue using what works. I have used this through all my pregnancies and there has been nothing wrong with any of my children. I am the long term study lol
I've always used a non-medicated saline spray, spray before a warm shower, shut up the bathroom so it gets steamy, blow my nose in the shower (sorry TMI) then the spray again after the shower. Always works!
I hear ya! Fess does nothing for me either. I was told Fess was the ONLY thing safe for pregnancy by the pharmacist, my GP and a couple of different obstetricians and that I would just have to deal with my sinus issues. I ended up using a naslal/sinus wash thingy where you squirt warm saline water in one nostril and it comes out the other. It took a few goes to get it right but it wasn't as completely and utterly foul as I expected it would be. I expected to be gagging but despite the very odd sensation I was fine. You have to do it regularly and you have to do it a certain amount of time before bed or you can get trapped water going down your throat but after a couple of days of using it i was honestly so much better.
