I am currently 13 weeks pregnant and thinking of having a relaxation massage sometime soon - does anyone have any advise on if this is ok or no. I have been told previously that some places won't allow you to have a massage when you are pregnant, is this to cover them or is it not healthy for the baby?
I've had about a massage a month during my pregnancy (am now 28 weeks) - and just make sure the places I've been have a person qualified to massage pregnant women, and that they have the inflatable pregnancy bed, and know about which oils to use etc.
If you can go for a place that does Maternity Massages, they are AMAZING and very relaxing, i had a couple while PG. (mine had a maternity massage chair as opposed to a bed)
I think they suggest NOT getting massages as your putting a lot of pressure on your belly if your lying flat on the table and also there are certain pressure points that later on can bring on labour etc.
Check out your local massage parlours or day spas and they will let you know whats ok.. i would go for a decent one though instead of say a little one in the middle of the shopping centre IYKWIM.
Majority of maseurs (sp) are trained for pregnancy massage. There are certain pressure points that need to steer clear of. Just let them know you're pregnant before they begin. Enjoy!
