I am currently studing my Diploma in Children Service's and am having trouble finding information about mandatory reporting in Vic.
I have found out that only registered people like police, teachers, doctors ect are mandated to report but what happens if some one with in a childcare centre suspects child abuse?
What are our ethical, moral and legal obligations?
Hi Lisa,
If you were in NSW I could assist, unfortunately I'm not sure of the Vic Child Protection System.
I would suggest calling the local council and speaking to the childcare department, they can put you in touch with the governing childcare body (that looks after regulations, licencing etc) for your state - they would have the information re: man. reporting.
Google 'Childrens and Young Persons Act Victoria' - The act has lots of legal jargon which makes it a bit tiring to read (I had to read it as part of my Psych qualification) but it stipulates requirements for mandatory reporting, and who else can/should make a notification... under what circumstances etc.
