At my work we run a maternity leavers forum twice a year. It is now my job to order the catering for this (usually held over lunch).
As my daughter is now 18 months old, my memory about what is ok and not ok to eat while pregnant is fading so I'm after suggestions on some 'pregnant friendly catering'
We normally order fruit, sandwiches or rolls, cakes & danishes, an assortment of teas & herbal infusions, coffee and fruit juice.
Comments have been made in the past that some of the catering is not "pregnant friendly" so we're looking to make sure we order some better foods that pregnant women can eat without worrying about any possible ill effects to them or their unborn child.
Preprepared sandwiches with cold meat and cheese etc are a bit of a no-no as you have no way of telling whether the cheese has been pasteurised or whether the cold meat etc is crawling with listeria. Likewise with fruit/salad that has been cut - no way of telling how long ago it was cut and whether there is a listeria risk there. You're better off providing whole fruits like strawberries, cherries and grapes, maybe with some dried fruit and nuts thrown in for variety?
A better option for pregnant women is hot savories (make sure they are piping hot) like small quiches, mini pizzas etc, or even a hot soup (in paper cups) with bread rolls etc.
