How early can doplar pick up heartbeat?

That's the question really! I know ultrasound can pick it up at 5-6 weeks but how early can doplar hear it.

My physio said she can use one from the clinic on me on monday when I'll be 7 weeks and 5 days so I know there is a heart beating but I don't want to try if there's a low chance of hearing something and then I get all stressed that I can't hear anything. My 1st U/S isn't for another 5 weeks or so and I want to hear/see baby NOW!!!

She has medical training too and used to use the doplar on herself all the time to listen to her babies between clients so she knows where to point! -that won't be an issue!

    Hey Expat

We heard our bubba's heart beat at 9 weeks and 4 days (by my LMP, by US bub measured 10 weeks 2 days) on a doppler. It was very quiet though, like it was very far away! My Dr picked it up again about a week later and it was much louder.

Pregnancy certainly does tests your patience doesn't it?

Hey there teagz! Thanks for the quick reply. I've been googling it and found that from 9 weeks it's possible...so I'll just have to wait! I'M SO IMPATIENT!!!

I'm not sure what the earliest is hon but don't be too shocked if they can't find it as that is quite common. I had a fall at 20 weeks and went straight to my OB for a checkup. The midwife used a doppler but told me that she wouldn't be suprised if they couldn't find the heartbeat on it even at 20 weeks. We did hear it thumping away immediately which was a huge relief.

Just try not to worry if they can't find it. The position of your placenta has a lot to do with it too and you won't know where your placenta is positioned until one of your major scans (12 or 20 weeks).

I hope you do get to hear that beautiful galloping sound though. Good luck!
