Question Heartburn- How much Rennie is too much?

Just wondering if you can have too many Rennies for heartburn during pregnancy. If so, how many is too many?

On the packet it says max 16 a day but nothing about if you're pregnant. I think some days I have more than 16 but my heartburn is so bad

I would stick to the 16 a day. It's just calcium carbonate & magnesium carbonate, neither of which I would think would be harmful in pregnancy... can always do with extra calcium! It would help relieve those dreaded leg cramps too LOL.

Not much longer to put up with the heartburn now! All the best

I dont think I even read that on the pack I had serious heartburn and would buy the biggest pack from the chemist I could get. Would probably go thru one pack a week. I wouldn't stress too much about it but just check with your dr next time.
Maybe you could try a glass of milk instead, sometimes coke helped me, and funnily enough bread. Heartburn sucks, I spent the last few months of my pregnancy spent sleeping in the recliner to ease some of the pain. Good luck and hopefully it'll all be over and forgotten in a few weeks once bubs is in your arms.

Id stick to the 16 a day.
I have also read the fruit tingles work too, and im sure there is no limit as to how many fruit tingles one can have . Maybe give them a try and if they work, then thats great and you have no limit. If not, then good old rennies will do the trick

Oh heck I am sucking them down by the heaps too!!! My gyne said to drink 5ml Gaviscon every 4 hours, but tbh he is not paying for the Gaviscon!!

Try taking two at a time and then not eating afterwards I know, I know it's hard. But two usually works for me and then I just don't eat till I really, really have to. Oh, don't drink either! And I'll stick to the 16 a day .. that's a lot. If you take two after every meal and you eat about 6 small meals/snacks per day .. that would make 12 in total and that is ok, right??

The only thing I could THINK it might do is maybe cause some constipation???? I know my DH sufferd severe heartburn and would not eat Rennie because HE said it makes him constipated. So other than that ... suck hun suck

I found the Rennie did nothing. I used the Gaviscon tablets, which tasted better too because I got the lemon flavour so they didn't taste like toothpaste. Gaviscon is stronger but I was able to take less of them so I was halving my usage of heartburn remedy and they werent that much more expensive than Rennies.

Forget morning sickness, big belly, uncomfortable night sleeps - they were all ok, it was HEARTBURN that killed me. I had it bad too esp during pg #3. I never took anymore than 6 rennies a day- so your doing well LOL.
Have you tried other things - drinking milk, eating slowly etc etc (im sure youve heard them all b4)......?????

The only thing that helped was FRUIT TINGLES!!! and yep you can have as many as you want. Might be worth giving them a try!

    Red face

when I was pregnant I went through huge packets a day. went to the doc and told her about it and she gave me a perscription. worked like a charm, took one each morning and didn't have any heartburn for the rest of the pregnancy. was more like acid reflux that I had, and I think thats what the perscription was for, it was called renetidine or something along those lines. no impact on bub at all

Ranitidine is the active ingredient in Zantac and Mylanta. I think it is in Gaviscon too. It also gets prescribed for bubs with reflux. You can get it over the counter or even at the supemarket. Have a close look at the labels when you do your grocery shopping and get one that has ranitidine

Hi KGB, welcome to belly belly & congrats on your pregnancy

I dont know what brand fruit tingles are but if you go to the lolly isle in the supermarket you'll find them there maybe near the lifesavers, mentos etc.

I asked my doctor about the rennie & she said that the maximum dosage written on the packet, being 18, is safe. So i'm still taking Rennie & prob have very close to 18 every day.

I hope your heartburn eases for you soon.

My chemist told me that it will make you constipated if you have too much So I drink milk before I reach for the antacid.

LOL Kristy, hopefully yours will leave you soon! I'm kind of addicted to the chewable rennie tablets now, from what I can remember of quickeze they taste very similar, I never thought I'd "enjoy" the taste but I do now LOL
Rennie seems to work very quickly for me too these days, the relief is so nice. I also sleep sitting up on the lounge these days due to pelvic pain but when i wake from my heartburn it doesnt seem as strong as it used to when I was laying in bed, so thats a bonus (cant wait to sleep in my bed again though!)

Oh yes, the laying down just makes it worse. Dont tell me all these bad things! - sleeping on the lounge lol?!?

Tried the Rennie and the chewable mylanta but they all taste like chalk, poor dh wakes up to the sound of me chewing most nights

LMAO ur poor DH. Mine was the same while I was sleeping in our bed, he'd hear me popping them out of the packet hehe
These days he only sometimes gets disturbed when I venture in at about 2:30 for a toilet visit, he usually even sleeps through that too!

Your past the half way mark now hun, will start going faster for you now!!!! So exciting
