    Leaking Ammniotic Fluid?

    Sorry but this contains TMI...

I was at work around lunch time and felt a sudden wet feeling, I could tell it was discharge but a lot, so I felt like I had wet my pants a bit. I knew I hadn't done that because I had not long gone to the toilet. So I went back to toilet to realise that this fluid was clear. I thought bout it a while then tried calling a couple people close to me but couldn't get hold of them. I wasn't sure if it was normal. Ended up speaking to Ob receptionist who told me to come in straight away - I told her I can't because I'm so far away so she said I need to go to hospital and how far is that. I went to hospital, thinking it was nothing anyway after the the nurses decide I need to see the doctor - I sit in the waiting room to have the doctor come out and say I'll be back in a bit... She went and had a smoke break!

They did a scan and she said there seems to be plenty of fluid still in there. She ordered me to bed rest, not even return to work to collect my stuff, until at least tomorrow. Then she got me to do a swab and apparently in 10mins this swab stick is supposed to turn black if it is fluid there was no need to wait she'll call me when the result is back. But by time i got to car and went to reverse I had to give way to her going home in for her lunch break. I know she is entitled to this but I'm concerned, if it is amniotic fluid, how serious is this amount?

Sorry for the very long winded post but it's so frustrating living where there are no services and only one loopy (termed by the towns population). She seemed quite concerned and stressed importance of bed rest. But that is it.... So I gather if no developments I go to work as normal tomorrow?

ring the hospital and ask for your results, someone should be able to give them to you or tell you to come in to get them.
Leaking amniotic fluid isnt something to mess around with - ring them and demand answers

i would probably call your OB again and tell them what you did at the hossy and with the GP. tell them everything they told you and get advice from there.

that you get some decent answers and care!

    Hiya Ellee,

I just wanted to say that three days ago I went through the exact same thing and worried that I was leaking amniotic fluid. I haven't been to the Dr and it has stopped but it felt exactly as you described and I wore panty liners for two days and worried myself sick. But bubs was moving hugely so I knew he was ok, and as I said it's stopped. I just thought I'd mention it as we are both around 23 weeks so it might just be one of those things that happen sometimes at this stage.
I hope it settles down for you and that the results are good when you get them back, let me know how it goes.

    Cheers Missy

Thanks for your replies! I really appreciate it.

Rayray - the doctor surgery is at the hospital and basically in the end that is how i was treated - through the doctor. Hospital won't be able to tell me anything.

Cassius - I will call my ob again tomorrow. I'm flying down and seeing him in 2.5wks at this stage anyway.

Missy - Thanks for sharing, it's great knowing i'm not alone. But you need to be careful too!

Since I have been on bed rest there hasn't really been much "leakage" which is great. So hopefully everything has settled and maybe it wasn't really the ammniotic fluid. Generally I'm someone who dismisses things in fear that it's normal and I'll look like a fool. But at same time, I understand that it's not something to be taken lightly

    Thanks again for your support
