Leg Cramps - how do I stop them??

    Hi Ladies,

Hoping someone can help me out here! Leg cramps at night are driving me nuts! Its not enough that my hips are falling off, my pelvic floor has rising damp, my boobs are trying to suffocate me and my belly looks like there is an alien about to rip its way out (ok maybe I am a bit tired and emotional tonight...) but now my legs are cramping like ... I dont know ... lost my train of thought.

Anyway to get back to the point. Anyone found a way of stopping or reduce those painful midnight cramps??

    Thanks,

Rommy - I feel your pain - literally!! I've just started getting leg cramps in the past week (along with restless legs!!) but mine aren't too painful thankfully.

Here's some info I found on the net:

Try our BabyCentre tip and eat a banana or drink a glass of milk before bed for a quick calcium and potassium boost. Don't take any herbal or vitamin supplements without first discussing it with a medical herbalist.

Here are some other tips for keeping muscle spasms at bay:
    - Avoid standing or sitting with your legs crossed for long periods of time.
    - Rotate your ankles and wiggle your toes when you sit, eat dinner, or watch TV.
    - Stretch your calf muscles (see How to get rid of leg cramps, below) several times before you go to bed.

I eat a lot of bananas (one of my preggy cravings!) so it may explain why I've only started experiencing them now and why they aren't too painful. I hope that helps!

Magnesium & Calcium tablets were the only thing that worked for me in both pregnancies.

I also have been getting leg cramps. I found that the only thing that helped was magnesium supplements, it has really eased the problem. I hope you find some relief. Also, it was suggested to me that putting a pillow in the end of the bed makes it easier to turn over and adjust one's position in the event of leg cramps/ discomfort etc. I am not sure how well that works tho.

Hope you find a solution, not too long to go now.
