Maternity bras

Just looking for a little advise:
Last week i went to bras n things asking to be fitted for a maternity bra, even at 20 weeks i havent got much of a bump, so the girl asked had i just had the baby said no i was due in Jan. B##bs are hug and "e" cup she confirmed, but then told me i was way to early for a maternity bra as they would still grow heaps
anyhoo she sold me an underwire bra (which i thought was a big no no in pregnancy, but must admit so much more supportive and attractive with E cups) but she insisted it was fine. Well after a week of wear i now have white/ yellowish lumps in my breast and my nipples are all puckered (sorry TMI) and of course very tender and sore. Do you think its the underwire? Ive stopped wearing it but if it is the bra which i suspect it is i think i should take it up with the company as to how their staff is trained, do you think?

as far as i've read, underwires are a no go in pg as they can impact on the milk ducts and cause dramas. definitely contact the company

as to mat bra - you can get them at any point - some people will get mat bras from really early so they don't have to get both wire free and then mat bras

I would take it up with the company for sure. Underwire bras are no-no's in pregnancy & when breastfeeding because your boobs change so much throughout the day & the wires can restrict that movement. Then as a result you can end up with blocked ducts & mastitis, something you definitely don't want to deal with.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, Scooby. Seems strange that she wouldn't fit you for a mat bra when you asked her to. Perhaps another shop would have better-trained fitters? How awful that it might have done that to your breasts! I would definitely let the company know.

scooby - as the other ladies have said, underwires are a no-go in pregnancy. I would definitely take it up with the company because they are meant to be trained and I would expect that is something they should know. She shouldn't have sold you that bra.

I notice you're in Perth. I got fitted at The Bra Bar in Murray Street in the city and the ladies were REALLY good there. I suggest going there, they have a nice range of maternity bras including the Hot Milk ones which are nice!

I thought those ppl were trained! I would definately be going back and getting my money back. They shouldn't have sold you an underwire, that's not good. And ppl usually get fitted for maternity bras around 4 months, so you're definately past that, I don't know what she was on about. Also, you get one with room to grow so that when your bbs do grow or your milk comes in you may still have room (however, you might also need to be fitted again, just depends).

The right time to be fitted for a maternity bra varies from woman to woman and there is no right time for everyone. The breast begins to prepare for lactation quite early in pregnancy and some women will outgrow their usual bra size earlier than others. Generally speaking, most of the changes to the breast have occurred by around four months (16 weeks gestation) and this is a good time to be fitted, if you haven't needed to earlier.

laranna i will go there as i tried another place who wouldnt even say hello never mind help. Plus i just love the hotmilk range
It was quite scary to find lumps but i calmed down when i figured out why, i didnt think anything too bad would just pop up over night. I probably should have known better as i never wore underwire with DS, just got suckered by the nicer bra i guess, but i know BNT do quite alot of training so i will let them know.

I wear the bonds maternity bras, i know they're not that pretty but i find them really good. I also use the bonds "bump" singlets which have a built in bra, I also find these really good as you can wear them under whatever ur wearing on top and it gives you some extra coverage of the tummy when feeding.

I got fitted for a maternity bra at 15 weeks. I had grown out of my normal bras and they were really uncomfortable. The lady that fitted me said once your out of your first trimester its a good idea to get fitted properly, and to stop wearing underwire bras.
