    2nd Around Birth Choices

    Hi All

I've just found out number 2 is on the way and am faced with 'do i do it differently this time?'

Maternal history of diabetes and preeclampsia had me choose an OB the first time around. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy and amazing labour. OB was in the South of France and the replacement too far away so my gorgeous little girl was born via midwife delivery and no drugs.

I now am faced with the decision of do I go down the OB route again (sounds silly I know) or book into a birth centre and be assisted by midwives. I will be 39 years old and stress that my maternal history may come and bite me and wonder if I should do the OB again just in case.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Firstly - Congratulations! I hope this pregnancy and birth go as wonderfully for you as last time.

Only you can really make this decision, but I honestly believe that midwifery lead care is wonderful and i'm sure if there were any concerns then they (midwife) would refer you if they felt it necessary.

I am expecting number 2 as well, and i will be going with the ob i went with last time, as I found him wonderful, and he was more than happy for me to go to the hospital and have the midwives do everything like last time. The only downside is that I did not have 'continuity' of care, but tbh I didn't mind that I didn't know the midwife beforehand. My deciding factor really is that I want to go private and therefore I need an ob. But it doesn't always mean intervention etc, i guess you just need to know what you want and how to get it.

    I didn't help much did I.
    Good luck with your decision.
