Nesting - what crazy stuff have you decided Must. Be. Cleaned. Now.

So I have an overwhelming urge to re-organise the pantry right now. Fortunately I'm tired from having just done the bathroom cabinet and cleaned the bathrooms, else I'd be knee deep in assorted condiments by now.

My DH simply rolls his eyes and mutters something about pregnant women and nesting before retiring to the lounge-room to stay out of my way. So what have you decided really absolutely must be cleaned before the baby comes?

The shower in the guest bathroom.
I scrubbed every inch of that bad boy with a toothbrush!

I did some absolutely crazy things when i was pregnant. My nesting kicked in at about 20ish weeks so i was cleaning the house frantically for half my pregnancy! My worst moments were cleaning out the entire pantry, scrubbing each shelf and rearranging the food in food groups, while in the shower looking at the vanity thinking it looked dirty stopped showering and scrubbed the entire thing from top to bottom and then finishing my shower after about an hour, waking up one day and having the sudden urge to take EVERYTHING out of my wardrobe vacuuming it out and scrubbing the shelves and walls then putting everything in order, when my SIL and her family lived here i went crazy with cleaning and cleaned up every time they made a mess and had a cry if things weren't clean (just a tad crazy) then after she left i spent days scrubbing my house again from top to bottom, i even cut open my finger while scrubbing under the fridge. There was no place safe from me and my cleaning. Then i got this urge to bake so i was baking everything i came home from the hospital with stale muffins on the bench

Sometimes i wish i could just have the nesting feeling again so my house would be spotless.

I didn't start nesting until the day DD was born. From 5am-11am I had to do 3loads of washing, vacuume the house, mop the floors, clean the bathroom, go to Big W to buy batteries for the camera head to hospital to get checked out. Come home pack my bags, head back to the hospital and have a baby at 8pm.

The other day I just HAD.TO. clean my car, mind you it was really grubby but it HAD to be done. And because some brainiac (me)decided to plant 8 lilac trees along the garden path I couldn't get my car to the spot where the hose reaches so had to do multiple bucket loads.

I keep looking at the dust on the light shades and thinking hmmmmmm I SHOULD get up there and do that ... then common sense kicks in and the prospect of climbing up 11 feet on a wobbly old ladder isn't so appealing

I too had to clean the car the other day!

With DS, I absolutely had to clean the kickboards in the kitchen, you know the bit at the bottom of the cupboards... I figured that was a pretty dire need, I mean, who looks there??

reorganise the pantry. and everything (labels, etc) had to be facing forwards.

re-alphabetising all of our bookshelves (we have 9) by author.

    then realphebatising our CDs.

and re-folding all of DS's clothes, wraps, etc.

    I bought a label maker.

You can probably work out the rest.

I didn't get it with either of my first two - just did what I had to do to get organised. This time I have written lists of things I am planning on cleaning & slowly getting things crossed off.
I do treat myself to a cleaner for a few hours just before the baby is born while I'm getting a haircut, massage & pedicure.

Haha I was nesting for a while, whole house was attacked. Best was cleaning the fence with a high pressure water hose- that's a great photo! We called it "extreme nesting"

The garage. DH kept saying he would clean it out and out things in the garden shed
but didn't, so I did using the wheelbarrow to take things from the garage to the shed

i was reading this thread the other day 'thinking wow, Ive never really nested' considering some of the stuff everyone has done. Then I told DH about the thread, his response was....

"But honey, your idea of nesting is getting us to move house. Isnt that extreme nesting?"

So looking back each pregnancy, I insist on moving, cleaning the old house, cleaning the new house and all of our stuff gets the ultimate clean too. And guess what we're planning another move this time round! (And we always just have to move round the 30 week mark too!)

Yep, that definitely counts as some serious nesting right there.

I did my wardrobe the other day. Chucked out anything I'm never going to wear again, put stuff away that doesn't fit till after bubs is born and sorted out everything else...nesting has it's uses, I need to go shopping now

I nested loads with my DS1. I also worked up until the day he was born, so my nesting happened at both home & at work. I remember being a few days over my due date and deciding my front veranda needed scrubbing. I could barely walk but managed to scrub my veranda. A neighbour and friend of mine commented when he saw me that he didn't think the baby would be spending much time out on the veranda! Lol. I scrubbed everything and looking back, I feel sorry for anyone that happened to cross my path while doing so because they copped me yelling and me in tears. I also pulled out everything in my wardrobe & drawers, the babies stuff and my entire linen press and ironed the lot 2 nights before DS1 was born.
