    Pendulum Abdomen (sp?) in Pregnancy

Hello. I had a pendulum (?) abdomen where my stomach muscles opened up with my last pregnancy, is it likely to happen again? Has anyone else had this happen & had another pregnancy?

I think the medical term is diastasis recti and it's pretty common. No personal experience (yet) sorry.

Yep mine never closed and I'm pregnant again. When it's not hot I wear tubigrip for support.

Yep I had a really wide gap after ds. I had to wear a stretchy bandage thing (like a tube top) for about 6 weeks. Im under the impression if it did it for one pregnancy it will do it for all. Mind u I didn't know about it until 3 days after.delivery when my midwife gave me the bandage.

I got severe diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles) during my son's pregnancy. It went from my rib cage to my belly button and you could fit 5 fingers in the gap. During my daughter's pregnancy it split an additional 1 - 1 1/2 inches below my belly button and was wider. And now with this pregnancy it has split even further and the gap is probably 7-8 finger widths now.

The symptoms I get from it is the 'delightful' bulge that looks like a football coming out of my abdomen length-ways whenever I tighten my tummy muscles (or lean back) as well as a tearing/ripping sort of burning pain where the muscles attach under my rib cage. Sometimes the pain can be quite bad. I also have SPD (pelvic instability) and the lack of abdominal muscle strength makes the SPD worse (to the point that sometimes I can't walk).
