Hi All
DH and I are thinking of one last 'couples only' holiday before baby arrives in Sept. We are thinking of going to Fiji - to a gorgeous island (it is relatively remote though, a boat ride from Nadi which even then is not exactly high tech for hospitals etc).
Anyway, do you think this is too late for this type of holiday? I really want to go but am I putting myself or the baby at risk? we had thought of going somewhere in Aus instead but now I have my heart set on Fiji to do something v luxurious and couply!
Please let me know what you think?
Have you chatted to your OB about this? What does he/she think? From memory your not a high risk pregnancy....I went away (to Noosa) when i was about 32 weeks pregnant - i must admit i did pack my hossi bag JIC ! the only negative i can see about going at 31 weeks is it might be slightly uncomfortable for you at times - on the plane etc. But if you, DH and your OB thinks its a plan.....i would go for it, you never know when the two of you will be able to do it again - alone...
Hubby and I went away on our honeymoon and I was 31 weeks pregnant. I asked my ob and she said go for it!!! Just remember to take it easy and rest when you can/
Pregpan - definately go on a holiday LOL!! And put your feet up and have a wonderful relaxing time. Noosa must be place to go as I was also 32 weeks when I went up there ( I was actually maid of honour in my best friends wedding!) and I did discuss with my OB first and he was all for it. I had a wonderful time - swimming, sitting by the pool with lots of trashy gossip magazines. Doesn't really matter where you go as long as you relax with your DH and have wonderful time.
I went to NZ at 28 weeks for 10 days, and it was fine. The hardest bit was coordinating the flights etc so I didn't have to sit still or wait around for too long. Remember that travel insurance won't cover you for anything that happens after 24 or 26 weeks that is baby related. I had no probs at all, and it was a really good idea to get away - takes your mind off the aches and pains!
i don't think it's too late to travel - esp seeing as you're not going anywhere too far away... i was going to suggest the Maldives to you (very couply and romantic, and WAY more spectacular than anywhere else i've ever been before), but i guess that's a little too far away in the rare instance that you need urgent medical attention (
since visiting the Maldives i've become a Maldives ambassador telling anyone who'll listen to go there - he he he!!
Ella - I looked at the Maldives but DH totally vetoed as he says too far away.... that may have to be the 1st one when we can leave the kid (s) at home with the gparents!!!
Thanks to all of you for the advice, we also looked at Noosa as we love it but it will be too cold (july). Hmm may see if we can go a week or 2 earlier for peace of mind but i am convinced we should go - I cant wait and the island we want to go to just emailed to tell me they do have availability after all (it is matamanoa island, look at it on web - divine!!). I cant wait!!!
Good advice re the flights, I will try to coordinate well - hmm we are booking on ff points so maybe I will lash out and tell DH we need to splash on business class!!!
Pregpan - My DH has organised a holiday away for us at the end of September sometime - i will 30 weeks then. He had originally planned for Bali but i felt uncomfortable going there at that stage in pregnancy (one of my SIL's went to Bali at around 32 wks and everything was fine). So at the moment we are planning for QLD ... sorry im not much help but i would think Fiji would be a great place to go and relax before the impending mayhem!
that is also a really good idea, but now i have my heart set on fiji... i am going to ask the OB just to clear my mind and then go ahead, i cant plan for all these contingencies...
