Question Please help me understand my ultrasound. (UPDATE)

Ok, so im confused about my us that i had today, and im hoping others with similar experiences can give me there opinions.

From lmp i am 7w 3d, now i dont have regular cycles, so was expecting it to be out by at least a week, as soon as she put the gel on and the dopler thing, she said i see a flicker, hubby and i took a breath of relief, then she said but it looks about 6 weeks, ill measure in a second.

She tried to actually record the heartbeat but wasfinding it difficult due to its size, eventually 3rd time she picked it up at 120, later saying 123, she said there is only 1 sac and said we would get a clearer idea if we did internal, hubby said no, cause even though its small there is a risk of mc, and he said he would be happy to return in 2 weeks.
She said the sac measures 5w 3d, later saying 5w 5d, which is almost 6 weeks.

So she said that was fine, then she is looking around and pushes hard on my tummy i thought i was going to wet myself, she stares at the screen and goes silent, i looked at her and asked is there a problem?
She replies, not a problem as such but there is another sac, but it looks empty, she keeps prodding and looking around then says no i think its bleeding, but the first picture looked just like an empty sac, but on another angle it looked like a giant wiggly line, this "sac" is just above the "viable" baby.

    She said it could be..
1- an empty sac that the baby didnt survive
2- an empty sac that the baby is too small to see
    3- bleeding from implantation
    4- unknown bleeding

She suggested to return in a week or two and to get my hcg levels taken.
On my us report she makes no mention of a second sac, only stating there may be a implant bleed.
She then said if we come back in a week or two and am told its twins dont be too shocked, but then she said if i start bleeding dont be worried either!

Now this is where i get all confused, could it be a twin or a bleed, i dont know, but i got the most definate positive darker than anything line, at 10pm on the 22 october.

According to the dates she thinks i am, that would have ment i ovulated aprox 10 oct with an aprox implant on the 19 october??
So ive gone from a due date of june 21 to july 3 thats almost two weeks difference?

Its weird cause i had two feelings this morning 1 that hubby would get a job interview at the same time as my scan which he did, and 2 they told me its twins lol

So please help did anyone have this bleed/sac, and what was the outcome?

With Ds3 we had a second sac which was barely able to been seen.. but I was 7 weeks and they could tell the sac had collapsed and baby was not viable.

I think you might just have to wait it out for a couple of weeks. My HCG levels were quite high with Ds3 as well

Can I ask where you read the risk of internal US and mc? only curious as I have had them with all my pregnancies and never had an issue but then i didn't know the risks either..

You are very early on in your pregnancy and at this stage it is hard to see anything without an internal ultrasound (which I would not be keen for either, so totally understand your decision not to have one). There is no way to say really what will happen. Hopefully the next two weeks will pass without drama and you can get some answers then

The us lady told me that the risk was minimal, but has been know to cause ms, and because we have had previous mc, my hubby said no.

Thanks for your replies ladies, i just wish i knew, none of the dates add up, and i would rather it be twins than a bleed, cause that would freak me out even more!
Is it even possiable for the sac to be empty at this stage and then have a fetus in it in a week or two?
this waiting is gunna do my head in!

If the sac was an actual sac, you could tell by now sweets, it would look just like the other one.

I think it has either already collapsed, ( I seen this with Harmony's twin, its just doesnt look like a properly shaped/formed sac) or its a bleed.. there is a name for it... cant think of it dammit.... that in most cases dissapears or may bleed out a little.

Seeing a heartbeat is great news sweets!!!!!
Will be thinking of you.... xoxoxo

Oh forgot to add, definatly possible to have a empty sac that has a baby at next ultrasound, but it doesnt sound like it is a viable sac from what the lady said to you... the sac still should be a proper shape, simular to the one with bub in it.. but you never know!!!

Wow that does sound a bit confusing. Yay for the little heartbeat though

I've never heard of risk of miscarriage for internal u/s either. It doesn't even go in far.. it just sits at the entrance

i think with all the different datings is the measurements they get so try not too be too worried n there is a heartbeat sooo yayyyyy!!!
as for the other sak im not sure i know with my ds1 he was a twin n i had an us at 12 weeks n by 32 weeks i didnt know there was another one in there till i was told he had passed..
some can hide and some can be overshadowed so maybe there could be a viable one but just not clear n too early too see... fingers x'd
but good luck hun n the way this yr has flown 2 weeks will be over b4 u know it
    keep us updated pls...

Thanks again for the replys, i still dont know what to make of it, my gf who just had twins said it sounds like i lost a twin.
I looked at my us films and she only took one pic of both sacs together and they almost look identical just 1 has a baby, but then she has a pic of this weird wiggle, and the report was so vauge.

I know its only a few weeks, but the wait is ging to drive me insane, i hate being in limbo

I got no sleep last night, i know i should concentrate on the baby that has a heart beat and i am, but i cant help but wonder what is going on, what the sac is, and if it is bleeding when its going to come out!

I had this too hun! Mine was a haematoma (bleed) and sorted itself out between 6 and 9 weeks pregnant... They said it would either bleed out the usual way or 'absorb' itself. I never had a bleed but by my 9 week us it was gone... I hope your is a twin though! Much more exciting! Congratulations by the way! So happy for you! xox

I have had a couple of friends who have had fraternal (non-identical) twins in the last year and they were both told that they could have conceived their twins up to a week and a half apart. Because you have to release 2 eggs in the case of fraternal twins, from what I gathered, it would be possible to ovulate twice a few days apart. That would mean that if what the sonographer saw was a baby, it might have just been because you ovulated a second time and/or it implanted later. I would think that not all embryos implant at the exact same time either, even if your body did make 2 eggs. I think it is still possible that you have a viable (such an awful word isn't it) second baby in there but you'll have to wait it out to see.

I really hope that it is any of the other alternatives to an empty sac. You so deserve this pregnancy and I don't want anything to rain on your parade . I hope the next week or two pass quickly so you can get some answers.

When the little piece of paper comes with the scan that shows the results it's actually a doctor who specializes in radiology that reads the scans then reports them. The sonographer only guesses and takes the necessary pictures. When I had my first scan I was 6 weeks 5 days and the sonographer said it was measuring at 5 weeks 5 days but the final report said 6 weeks 3 days. I wouldn't worry too much about the sonographer and just go by what the report says. Big hugs sweetie xx
