As this pregnancy was a surprise, (which we are now so grateful for!) last year I booked tickets to a concert with friends, but as it turns out I will be 6 months pregnant when it is on. I was thinking that I shouldn't go because of hearing damage to baby, but someone said to me that it was only prolonged exposure that causes damage.
If it were me, I wouldn't have even thought about not going, to be honest!! I think bubs is quite well insulated in there!! I know a couple of ladies that went to gigs with kidlets in utero & there have been no issues whatsoever.
I went to a festival when I was 6 m pg with DS. And I think his hearing is great. I had a great day, and DS didnt seem to mind. He is now a huge music fan. If I put on certain tracks he will fall asleep to them...
I have been to several concerts while pg, including Disturbed (metal) , with no worries at all, the only reason I wouldn't go is if I was worried about the crowd, which is why I didn't go to big day out...I could just imagine someone moshing into me off their face... but im sure the music is fine, maybe ur bub will even dance in there! Enjoy a concert while u can cause once bubs comes u won't have time!
I would go. My DH bought me tickets to Michael Buble just before we found out we were pregnant and then when we found out we were having twins I wasn't even sure I would make it that far in the pregnancy as it was when I was 36 weeks pregnant. Low and behold I made it to the concert (I asked my Ob if I should go or not in case the noise would harm the babies and she said to go)
So at 36 weeks with twins (huge so everybody was staring at me like I was a freak show lol ) I went to the concert. The twins danced around the whole time, having a ball and they love it in the car if I play them some Michael Buble. When they are whinging in the car I can put his CD on and they are instantly quiet!!!
i wanted to go to slipknot but DD1 told me I wasnt allowed because the baby would think there was a war going on hee hee
but yeah i think you will be fine, i am missing out on nails this time because i cant leave the baby, and i think it would be toomuch carrying her around all day at soundwaves!!
I went to Motorhead at about 6 months and my DD loved it, she moved around so much! I made sure I was in seating though so I wouldn't get hurt and it was indoors so there was no smoking - they were my main concerns with going.
I think I went to see The Grates when I was about 8 months with DS... in a tiny tiny room, with LOTS of people and it was the loudest thing I have EVER HEARD... lol
But I've been to about 5 or 6 concerts whilst preggers.
His hearing is fine. He pretends not to hear me most of the time though.. LOL
i went to a very loud concert a month before baby was born. They tested his hearing in hospital after he was born and said it was great.
Better go now while you can, harder to get out after baby is here....sadly I have to miss out on Kings of Leon cause DS will only be just 3mths old and I dont want to be expresing or leaving him to babysat when stll so young.
yep, like the others i would go! i too went to many a music event when pregnant. the only time it got hairy was when the big soccer final match ended (we were in italy) and the home team won and as the crowd came out into the piazza where the concert was it got really crowed and bumpy and i felt very protective of my bump and had to 'bash' my way out...
but i think in a normal concert ppl are much more aware and responsive to pg chicks. there's always a couple in the crowd. just think of it as a musical education for bubs! LOL!
I saw Pearl Jam & Kings Of Leon when I was 6 months pregnant with Harrison... he loved it and would kick me hard when the music stopped.
I will be 7 months pregnant when I go to see Pink in July, and I just went the other night to see The Veronicas. Pregnancy won't stop me from going to concerts and each time my midwife/s have told me to go ahead & have fun but to keep hydrated.
i saw Chris Brown & Rihanna, i was about 12w and i felt so bad, i was right near the stage and my whole body was vibrating from the music.
there are 4 more concerts that i would be going to if i werent pg, but i just cant do it! perhaps it wouldnt be as bad in seats, rather than standing near the stage..
Thanks ladies, they are GA tickets but I think I'll be able to stand at the back, not as fun as friends be at the front. But least I won't miss out I'll just see how I feel closer to the time - hopefully i'll be able to
Yeah, definitely go!! After bubs arrives it won't be so easy!!
They're really well insulated in there, apparently the noise they hear can be compared to you or me hanging out at the bottom of a swimming pool listening to music - really muffled and nowhere near as loud as what we'd hear if we weren't under water.
I went to see My Chemical Romance when I was pregnant with DD, I'd bought the tickets well before I'd conceived and come hell or high water I was going, they're my favourite band!! It was great - they played at the Tivoli so there was no seating, but instead of being in the mosh I grabbed a spot on the lower balcony, so I was within spitting distance of the stage but wasn't getting elbowed and crushed by rabid teenagers...
I did end up spending the support band's set in the toilets as their sound techs were pouring waaayyyyy too much bass through the speakers and I was getting nauseated, I wasn't worried about DD being affected but it was making me feel sick as a dog so I climbed over the balcony and sat in the toilets (luckily they have beautiful plush couches lining the wall oppsite the basins so it's not like I was sitting in a cubicle with the lid down!!) for half an hour until they walked off... MCR's levels were fantastic, I totally forgot all about DH's stern warnings to 'take it easy' and thrashed myself - I didn't stop jumping up and down and screaming for their entire set, I was sooo exhausted but it felt great to let loose. And to this day MCR is DD's favourite, I don't listen to them that much these days (there's just so much music out there!!) but when I do she gets all excited and headbangs like her mummy
But yeah, definitely go, I'd say! Most people are really understanding and accommodating of pregnant fans, if it's a rock concert you will usually get a few people nearby to band together and 'protect' you from any harm, if it's a more mellow band then there's no problems!! Just make sure you keep your water up and have a great time. And, it makes a good story for when they get older, especially if they like the artist you went to see - 'Did you know you went to 'x's' concert when you were still in Mummy's tummy?!' they love it lol
Definately go! Like everyone said they will be fine! Its hard not to worry though.
I am a music freak and love my concerts! I think I saw 4 or 5 concerts while pg! I was about 6 months when I saw P!nk in the GA area, I needed to pee before she came out but held it cause we had a really good spot! That will probably be the only thing! And make sure you dink lots of water, as it tends to get hot in the Ga areas.
Yes definately go!
We volunteered at the Tassie Falls Festival over New Year's when I was just 7-8 weeks - dog tired after a days work and hardly saw any bands cos when I did have the energy to stay up past 8pm the smell of ciggie smoke made me wretch
But I'm really looking to my favourite festival in a couple of weeks: another camping one but this time I'm not working, I've got heaps more energy and we usually carve out a nice possie at the back under the trees away from smoke with banana-lounges, hammocks and eskies for everyone to meet and chill out when tired of the crowds - I reckon I'll just hang out there for the duration
