"Push" Gifts

I didn't, and TBH I wasn't really looking for any gift at that time. I guess I would have ABSOLUTELY loved if DH was so moved by the event that he just wanted to do something to commemorate the event or to say thank you, but both times I got some flowers that came with an explanation of how they weren't very good and what little effort he went to in getting them. Yeah thanks.
Interestingly after DD2 was born I was doing some thankyou gifts (home cooked slices) for my OB and Midwife and a couple others and DH said 'where is my thank you food' (as a joke). So I did make him a thank you gift (to continue the joke) but afterwards I did wonder where the heck my 'thank you for throwing up for 8 months and getting that which was once inside outside' present was LOL

I didn't get anything and I didn't buy DH anything.

If anything, I would have loved a letter from him. Not a gift. Just something where he could write down his thoughts and feelings right at that moment, of us bringing a new life into the world.

Nope. I consider they baby enough of a gift for DH and I.

But I do get wedding anniversary gifts :) and it only took four years for our marriage to feel like an eternity for DH lol aka I got an eternity ring ;)

I wonder how long the term push gift will last?? Kind of mean to CS mums. Like they don't deserve a gift cause they didn't push?? I really don't like the term at all.

I've heard of people getting a gift after the birth but never heard that term before lol. I agree it's tacky.

For us, nope no pressies. Just a baby. Didn't get siblings presents 'from the baby' either. Have never understood that one. We all just enjoyed the arrival of a new baby into the family.

After DD was born, I got a pink sapphire put in my eternity ring. Next baby we will do the same (only, for stereotype's sake, it might be a blue one if it's a boy) It was our plan as soon as we got the eternity ring, to add stones to it marking significant family events.

So, yeah, I guess that's my push present. But I totally agree with others; the pushing IS the present! Bring that business ON!

I got a gold necklace when DD was born. It was one of those nameplate necklaces (inspired by carrie from sex and the city), DH gave to me when I was in hospital. We had joked about a push present but I never thought he would actually go through with it so was a lovely surprise!
I bought him a rose plant that we planted in our garden to watch grow as our DD grew, and I also bought him a bottle of whisky that he promptly drunk the night of her baptism!

I think the name is tacky and makes people that have a CS seem inferior as they have not "pushed".

When DS1 was 3 months old I got my eternity ring as I harrassed DH as always wanted 1 and told him it was 1st wedding ann or 1st baby!. He himself had not thought of anything not even flowers, chocs. I didn't care but would have LOVED a card!!

After DS2 I got nothing.

I dislike the name and the notion TBH. It feels a bit like commercialisation to me, getting a gift for having a baby, and I don't like the "push" name. A small token perhaps, like a charm for a bracelet, but in my mind an eternity ring is for a tenth or 20th anniversary and when a new baby is born there are so many more important things to spend money on than diamonds. Just my 2c :)

I'll expand on the tradition. It apparently came about as couples did not have sex before marriage and birth control was not really around or was not readily available or reliable. So if you were successful or your body was ready, you got pregnant on your wedding night or usually the next month, the eternity ring was to celebrate the fact the a baby meant you were together for eternity symbolising ever lasting love or if no baby, you made it to one year of marriage and again symbolising eternity:D

Which puritanical society was it where noone was having sex before marriage? Not ours surely? People have been having sex before marriage for eons...they just didn't talk about it! There were a hell of a lot of very healthy full term looking prem babies though!

Bwahahahahaha - Yes, my older brother was one of those LOL - Not that my Mum made up the pretense, but my stuffy old Nanna certainly preferred this version of events!! However my Mum was married April 1st (hahahahha) and my brother was born August 25th so I think people just humoured my Nanna with her 4 month 'premature' chubby newborn :doh: - it makes me giggle though, the only person she was fooling was herself :)

No push gift here and probably won't get one this time either. I wouldn't mind a ring with gemstones in it to represent each of our kids one day though! :)

Id never heard the term either! No presents here, not really our thing. I did get dp a card for ds' 1st birthday to say 'yay we made it through the first year' but that's it.
